Isabella widened her eyes in feigned surprise, raising a hand to lightly cover her lips, “Did I accidentally say the quiet part out loud?
“My sincere apologies. I had no idea you would treat Mr. Wayne’s birthday tribute so casually.
“Though I suppose it’s understandable.
“You couldn’t present anything too lavish, yet your gift needed to appear rare and prestigious, so invoking Professor Grant’s name was the obvious gimmick.
“Given your family’s rapport with him, whether he truly sent it comes down to whatever you claim anyway, doesn’t it?
“I understand–there’s no need to explain.”
Turning to glance around the lounge, Isabella added in a sweet, airy tone, “Please don’t take my words to heart, everyone. Exposing the Kellers‘ little arrangement wasn’t my intention. I spoke out of turn, so just pretend I said nothing at all.
“Let’s simply consider the tribute a personal gift from the Professor to Mr. Wayne.”
Hearing her patronizing dismissal, Damian felt blood rush to his head.
He slammed his glass down, springing to his feet with a furious roar, “Isabella, don’t push your luck!
“Who gave you permission to slander my family!
“What right do you have to claim our gift wasn’t from Professor Grant?!
“You are utterly detestable!”
Damian was ready to blow a gasket.

Rumors that the Kellers had tried to bamboozle General Wayne with an empty trinket would spread like wildfire.
One could never underestimate the speed of high–society gossip.
If he didn’t squash this suspicion tonight, mocking rumors would blanket the capital by morning.
Regardless of the truth, having their prestige gift questioned as a fraudulent imitation was a humiliating slap in the face.
Elite dynasties rarely bothered investigating gossip; they would simply treat the Keller family’s blunder as entertainment over tea.
The thought sent tremors of rage through Damian’s limbs as he bellowed, “Isabella, I demand an apology!
“If I prove this hardware was delivered directly by Professor Grant, you will get on your knees and apologize to our entire family!”
Damian was beside himself with fury.
He couldn’t allow these whispers to circulate for another minute, regardless of whether making a scene looked boorish during Steven Wayne’s gala.
Isabella had instigated the clash, after all.
Isabella narrowed her eyes slightly, replying in an even cadence, “Very well. But don’t bother bringing out certificates of authenticity–anyone can fabricate paper.
“Given your cozy ties with Andre, his team would naturally vouch for whatever you ask.
“If you have the backbone, prove the machine’s clinical efficacy on the spot.”
Her tone remained cool and indifferent, “Andre is an internationally acclaimed cardiovascular authority, widely respected for his genius.
“Any clinical device engineered under his hand should function flawlessly.
“Demonstrate it right here before the room. If it can relieve chronic ballistic trauma or long- term neuropathic pain, I’ll concede your device is genuine and bears Andre’s pedigree. How about it?”
