Chapter 97 Waking Up to Reality
After delivering a smooth compliment to his wife, he smiled warmly at Isabella, “And Bella looks spectacular too. She’s got a great canvas.”

The atmosphere turned warm and lively as Eugene pulled out a chair for Isabella, and the entire family sat down to enjoy their late–night comfort food.
Meanwhile, back at the Powell mansion, Isaac was standing frozen in his tracks.
He stared down at the phone in his hand, unable to process what had just happened.
He let out a sharp gasp, his mind going completely blank.

The head of the prestigious Carter family had called him directly to say his wife felt an instant connection with Isabella and invited her to spend the night at their estate, meaning Isabella wouldn’t return until tomorrow evening.
Before Isaac could ask how or why, Arthur deftly shifted the conversation, hinting that Isabella’s wardrobe looked sparse and asking if the Powells simply hadn’t found the time to order her custom clothes yet.
He went on to mention that his wife had taken the liberty of ordering a massive spread of high–end designer pieces for Isabella, which would arrive tomorrow as a personal gesture of affection.
Furthermore, Arthur added that since he and his wife never had a daughter, they adored Isabella on sight and wanted to spoil her, politely asking the Powells not to take offense at their protective instincts.
He made it crystal clear that they had zero intention of stealing the Powells‘ daughter away.
Isaac was nowhere near as battle–tested as the older patriarch; after getting cut off and having the blatant reality of how they neglected Isabella thrown right in his face, he was lost for words and burning with shame.
In reality, he was already putting in orders for Isabella’s new wardrobe, but because of the tight schedule, the custom pieces hadn’t been finalized yet.
What truly made Isaac’s blood run hot with embarrassment, however, was the sheer speed and efficiency with which the Carters acted, launching straight into a full wardrobe overhaul for Isabella without a second thought.
Even though the connections and prestige of the Carter patriarch and matriarch meant they could get anything done with a single phone call, Isaac still felt a suffocating heat clawing up his throat.
After all, Isabella had been back with their family for quite some time now.
If they had actually cared enough to put in the effort, Isabella would already have a closet overflowing with custom–tailored garments instead of wearing off–the–rack pieces with the tags still on.
Sweating bullets from anxiety, Isaac didn’t even manage to find out how Isabella ended up at the Carter estate or how she managed to charm the Carters before he dazed out and hung up the phone.
Right at that second, Hannah sauntered over with a playful pout, thrusting her tablet forward, “Hey. Isaac,

“I totally need a dress exactly like this one, so can you have the family stylist get it custom–made for me?”
Hearing her demands, Isaac pressed his lips into a thin line, casting a hard look at her before replying flatly. “Hannah, your closets are already bursting at the seams.
“If you really want that dress, go order it yourself.
“As far as I recall, you receive a massive monthly allowance.”
As Isaac muttered those words, he suddenly froze, a realization striking him like a physical blow.
It finally hit him that in all the months Isabella had been back at the house, she hadn’t received a single
dime of allowance.
She had absolutely nothing.
How did she even manage to survive out in the city when she first came down from the mountains?
A sudden wave of panic and dread washed through Isaac’s chest.
For the very first time, he realized with agonizing clarity just how they had marginalized, ignored, and cast Isabella aside.
Leaving a stunned Hannah behind as he marched upstairs to find Daniel, Hannah threw a massive tantrum, stomping her foot hard against the marble floor in pure frustration.
Sure, she had her own personal savings, but that money was her ultimate safety net for the future; there was no way on earth she was going to touch a single/penny of it.
On the contrary, if she got Isaac to place the custom order, the bill would be charged straight to the family’s corporate account.
It wouldn’t cost her a dime, and she could easily flip those designer bags, jewelry, and outfits down the road to build up her private cash reserve.
D*mmit!
What the hell was wrong with Issac lately?
