Chapter 161 Whispers of Hauntings

Cindy’s POV:

Princess Margaret was so furious she looked on the verge of fainting.

Desperate to divert attention, her venomous gaze suddenly snapped toward Priscilla of Duskfang Pack, who was cowering in a corner.

“Oh, right,” Princess Margaret said sharply, pointing at her. “Forget the matter of the gift. You refused to let Dr. Rupert treat members of the Duskfang Pack. That is a fact, is it not? No matter how you twist it, this is your fault. Are you still going to deny it?”

A textbook attempt at changing the subject.

Priscilla immediately chimed in, “That’s right. Cindy went too far…”

“Since everyone is here,” a cool male voice cut in.

Rupert had appeared in the crowd without anyone noticing, a glass of fruit juice in his hand.

“I might as well clarify,” Rupert said, adjusting his glasses. “I refused to treat the Duskfang Pack because they attempted to seize the personal dowry of the Duchess of Silverpeak Pack, as well as Silverpeak Pack’s inheritance. And as for the substitute they brought in, the one named Evelyn, everyone knows what he did in the southern borderlands. A family with no moral bottom line like that is not one I, Rupert, will ever

treat.”

That strike landed with brutal precision.

Public opinion flipped instantly in my favor.

The noblewomen who had been condemning me moments earlier now looked at Duskfang Pack and Lily with open contempt.

Queen Isabella’s POV:

I watched the scene unfold, Cindy standing in the center of the hall, radiant, untainted, proud.

In a sudden rush, the words I’d been holding back burst out of me.

“Hmph. What do those people know?” I said. “Cindy is a good child. When she and Prince Adam marry, I, as his mother, will treat her well and never allow her to suffer such indignities again.”

Cindy’s POV:

Queen Isabella’s remark was a hundred times more explosive than the painting being torn apart earlier.

“What?”

“Marriage? The Crown Prince marrying Cindy?”

“My God. What kind of reversal is this?”

The banquet hall erupted.

Hannah, the youngest daughter of Duskfang Pack, who had always dreamed of marrying into power and even harbored fantasies about Prince Adam, was now so jealous her eyes turned red.

“Why?” she screamed hysterically. “She’s a woman my brother threw away. Trash expelled by our pack. Why does she get to marry the Crown Prince? She doesn’t deserve it. She doesn’t deserve it.”

Smack.

Priscilla slapped Hannah hard across the face in an attempt to shut her up, but it was already too late.

Lily reacted as well. She pointed at me, laughing until she nearly doubled over. “Hahaha. Has Prince Adam lost his mind? Marry you? Wouldn’t he become the laughingstock of the entire world? Picking up someone else’s castoff and treating it like a treasure?”

I looked at the two women coldly, as if they were clowns performing on a stage.

“Whether I deserve it is not for you to decide,” I said clearly. “Entering the Ryken bloodline is the dream of every werewolf. I stand here on my own strength. As for you, all that filth pouring from your mouths only proves your insecurity and jealousy.”

I turned and faced Princess Margaret, who sat rigid on the dais, her face dark with fury.

“Your “Your Highness,” I said evenly, “since you dislike the gift, I won’t force it upon you.”

I took two steps forward and lowered my voice, speaking in a tone only those nearby could hear, cold and eerie.

“However, I’ll remind you of one thing. The nights at Blackthorn Manor are quite windy, aren’t they?”

Princess Margaret’s pupils shrank sharply.

“Those innocent Omegas your husband forcibly marked, who later died under mysterious circumstances in that manor… their resentful spirits. Do they cry in your dreams these days?”

I met her eyes and subtly released a trace of pheromone meant to induce fear. “When I walked in earlier, I thought I saw several blood-soaked shadows clinging to your shoulders, breathing against your neck. Your Highness, you might want to find an exorcist. Otherwise, I fear you may not make it through the winter.”

“Ahhh!”
