I was discussing Evelyn’s Luna inauguration ceremony, hoping it would be a grand spectacle for the future queen of the Duskfang Pack, when Robert’s grandson suddenly burst in with a
message.
At the council chamber, I learned Cindy somehow convinced Rupert, the werewolf doctor, to refuse treatment for Priscilla!
A wildfire of rage ignited inside me, scorching my thoughts. My wolf spirit growled in frustration.
That damned Cindy! What else does she know besides sneaky tricks?”
I stormed back home and kicked the door open. Cindy! You poisonous snake! Grandma’s been good to you, and you make Rupert refuse her medicine? Is your heart made of stone or venom? What else can you do but play dirty?”
Cindy was calmly polishing a pair of claw gloves–old–looking, sharp, and dangerous.
She looked up at me, her eyes cold and distant like a stranger’s.
“James,” she said, her voice icy as frost, “I didn’t manipulate anyone. Rupert made this choice himself. Not everyone can control him. Maybe you should think about what the Duskfang Pack’s been up to lately.”
A mocking smile played on her lips. “If I’m such a nuisance, you can kick me out anytime. That way, I won’t interfere with your grand plans.”
“You little… “I shook with anger. Kick her out? Easy to say! Her father, Benjamin, and her three Alpha brothers died heroes serving the kingdom. Their names were carved on the royal monument and respected by all wolves.
If I exiled their orphaned family member while marrying a new Luna, the whole kingdom would curse me. The Duskfang Pack’s reputation would be destroyed forever.
She was counting on me not daring to move against her to act so boldly!
I glared at her but felt powerless. I couldn’t fight her, shame her, or exile her. This helplessness drove me mad–especially since I was an Alpha who used to win every battle!
“Fine, Cindy. Just wait!” I spat through clenched teeth and stormed off, boiling with frustration and humiliation.

I needed to find another werewolf doctor. Rupert couldn’t be the only one in the entire
kingdom!
Cindy’s POV:
James’s rage and helplessness didn’t satisfy me; they just made me feel sorry for him and his foolishness.
After he left, I walked toward the cliffside woods behind my residence.
The moonlight was cold and clear. No one else was around.
“Diana, come out.”
With a sudden surge, my blood raced and my bones shifted. Under the moon’s glow, my body transformed into a massive snow–white wolf–strong–limbed, agile, with fur frosted like ice. I became one with Diana, majestic and regal
“Awoooo!”
I lifted my head and let out a long, haunting howl at the full moon. In that cry echoed suppressed pain, the fury of betrayal, memories of the past, and the wild freedom of breaking free.
My mind drifted back to Moonridge Heights‘ Wolf Martial Academy.
My mentor, Elder Selvaryn, had taught me to control my wolf spirit, to strike precisely at an enemy’s throat, to remain calm in the direst moments, and to lead my pack to victory.
Back then, I wasn’t just some Luna stuck in the back house–I was a warrior of the Northmere Silverpeak Pack.
“Ms. Cindy!” Jewel appeared silently behind me.
Without fear, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around my massive neck, pressing her face into my thick fur.
“Ms. Cindy, you’re the strongest!” Her voice trembled with tears but held firm conviction. “Evelyn can’t hold a candle to you! You’ll outshine her.”
