Since my fallout with James yesterday, the whole atmosphere around the Duskfang Pack had shifted–thick with tension and something off, like the eerie calm right before a
thunderstorm breaks.
My wolf senses were on high alert; I could feel sharp, hostile eyes lurking in the shadows, cold and calculating like snakes, all focused on Moonwhisper Residence.
“Diana, looks like we’re really in deep this time,” muttered quietly to my wolf spirit.
“A bunch of cowards playing childish games. Cindy, I’ll tear them apart myself!” Diana’s voice rang out fierce and full of contempt.
That afternoon, I was trimming the cedar trees I’d brought from Northmere, working carefully in the courtyard.
Hanley Fangs, an Omega under Nick, used the excuse of delivering the daily supplies to edge closer.
His father was an old wolf who had once helped me when I first became Luna, and Hanley still owed me loyalty.
“Ms. Cindy,” Hanley whispered urgently, his eyes flickering with worry, “you need to watch your back. Elder Cohen told me Alpha and Evelyn are planning a full pack meeting in three days… and they want to publicly expel you.”
My hand froze mid–cut, but honestly, I wasn’t shocked. This was coming, no doubt about it.
“There’s more,” he lowered his voice even more. The people who have been watching you day and night are Evelyn’s loyalists. They’re scared you’ll grab the Silverpeak Pack inheritance and escape before the meeting.”
“Got it.” I handed him a fresh cedar branch. “Take this to soak. It might help your dad’s injury. After that, stay away from me. Keep yourself safe.”
Gratitude and worry flickered across his face as he nodded and quickly slipped away.
Inside the house, Jewel was restless, her fingers nervously tugging at the edges of her clothes -she could sense the tension too.
“M–Ms. Cindy…” she stammered.
“It’s okay, Jewel,” I said gently, making sure every door and window was locked tight. Then I

told her to bring out every box from the Silverpeak Pack’s storage.
She looked puzzled as I sorted the valuables into two piles.

One pile was flashy but replaceable: gold and silver cups, soft furs, crystal coins–these went into a chest that anyone could see. The other pile held the true treasures–my “Soul Breaker” claw gloves, rare crystals infused with moonlight ancient scrolls, and Silverpeak Pack’s tokens–hidden carefully beneath a secret floor panel covered by a carpet.
Diana had advised me to carve out these hidden compartments when I first moved in.
“Ms. Cindy, what are you doing?” Jewel asked, confused as she packed.
I gripped her hand firmly and said with quiet seriousness, “Jewel, listen carefully. No matter what happens over the next three days, your safety is the most important thing. If anyone comes for the visible treasures, let them take it. Don’t risk your life over those things. Got it?”
She seemed only half to understand, but seeing the seriousness in my eyes, she nodded hard, tears starting to form. “I get it! Ms. Cindy, don’t worry. I’ll do whatever you say!”
For the next two days, I kept up appearances, acting like everything was normal. I stayed mostly inside Moonwhisper Residence, reading, polishing my claw gloves, and practicing battle moves from Moonridge Heights with Diana.
I ignored the rumors swirling outside and the eyes that never stopped watching. I stood solid, unmoving like a mountain.
Storms are always quiet before they hit.
And I was ready for whatever was coming next.
