Hannah covered her face as her head snapped to the side from the blow. A thin line of blood appeared at the corner of her mouth.
She stared at me in disbelief, tears flooding her eyes almost instantly.
“You you hit me?”
…
“I hit that filthy mouth of yours!”
My face was livid, my whole body shaking. Kenzi was roaring too, driven by pure instinctive rage over Cindy being insulted. “Say it again. Who’s trash? Who’s used up? Cindy is the Duchess of Silverpeak. She’s a national hero. What right do you have to compare yourself to her? You don’t even deserve to say her name.”
“You … you hit me for some outsider! I’m telling Grandma!”
Hannah sobbed as she ran out.
I slumped back into my chair, staring at my palm, which was still numb. All I could think was that this family was completely beyond saving.
Not long after, Grandma arrived, leaning heavily on her cane as she shuffled in.
I had expected her to scold me for hitting Hannah, or at least lecture Hannah for being unreasonable.
But what she said first stunned me.
“James, I don’t think Hannah’s idea is entirely wrong.”
I looked up at her wrinkled face in shock, overwhelmed by a sense of absurdity.
“Grandma, have you lost your mind too?”
“How is that losing my mind?” Her cloudy eyes gleamed with naked greed. “You can see the situation clearly. Prince Adam gave up power for a woman, which means Prince Noah has a strong chance of taking the throne. If our family produces a queen, that would be an incredible honor. Hannah may be a beta, but with the right tactics, there’s no reason she couldn’t make Prince Noah fall for her. That would be the best possible future. As her brother, instead of helping pave the way for her, you’re tearing us down. Do you really want to see us

Looking at Grandma and Hannah, both wearing near-obsessive expressions, I suddenly understood something.
Just as Evelyn had said, this family had been rotten to the core from the very beginning.
They didn’t care about dignity. They didn’t care about reality. All they cared about was that hollow dream of wealth and status.
“Do whatever you want.”
I closed my eyes in exhaustion and waved my hand. “Go if you want. Just don’t drag me down with you.”
I felt completely drained.
That was the only thing I felt anymore.
Queen Isabella’s POV:
Winter had settled over the Royal Court, and snow was falling heavily.
Inside Rose Palace, however, it felt like spring.
I was holding a list, checking off names with my pen.
“This one, Count Camden’s wife, invite her. And this one, Roderick’s youngest daughter, invite her too.”
I was in a good mood.
Margaret had unexpectedly sent me gifts over the past few days. It seemed she had finally learned to show respect to me as Ryken’s queen. I decided to host a ladies’ tea party so all the noblewomen at court would understand one thing clearly. In this silent war, I was the one who had won.
“Your Majesty, what about the Duchess of Silverpeak?” the attendant Martha asked cautiously.
My pen paused, and I frowned.
“Don’t invite her.”
I crossed Cindy’s name off without hesitation. “This tea party will be held at Adam’s residence. The theme is flower tea appreciation and art discussion. Cindy? She’s crude. She’s a soldier.
