Cindy’s POV:

I looked straight at Barbara, my gaze cold and clear, like deep frozen water.

“Right now, Madam Carrie probably believes James is young, talented, and handsome. How could a woman not fall for him? I was once his Luna. I managed his household for years and even stood beside him on the battlefield. If that isn’t love, then what is?

“She thinks the stronger the love, the harsher the words. The colder I act now, the more it proves I still care. She believes I married the prince just for show, out of spite, to make that unfaithful bastard James suffer, then crawl back and beg me.”

Barbara’s eyes widened. I had said exactly what was on her mind.

“That… that’s human nature…” she murmured.

“Human nature?” I let out a short, cold laugh. “That’s the thinking of weak people, especially women who can’t live without a man.”

I stood and walked to the window, looking down at the crowded streets below.

“Mrs. Barbara, please go back and tell Madam Carrie and that idiot Hannah.”

I turned back, my voice gentle but firm. “From beginning to end, I never loved James.”

Barbara was so shocked that she spilled her coffee. “N-never loved him? Then you two….”

“That was duty. A bond. A political marriage between two families,” I said coolly. “I treated him well because he was my husband and my ally. I did everything a Luna was supposed to do. None of that equals love.

“As for now…”

I brushed at my sleeve as if flicking away dust, contempt curling at my lips. “He’s nothing but a backstabbing fool who couldn’t even protect his own wife. Does someone like that deserve space in my heart? I already have a real man like Prince Adam, who would stand against the world for me. Why would I choose trash instead?

“Am I blind? Or just stupid?

“If there was never love, there’s nothing to get over. Leaving him was like throwing away a pair of shoes that never fit. All I felt was relief.”

I finished speaking, picked up my bag, and didn’t look at Barbara again.

“Mrs. Barbara, that’s all I’ll say. If Madam Carrie lacks even this much confidence, if she falls for such clumsy attempts at stirring trouble, then her marriage is doomed anyway. Goodbye.”

I opened the door and walked out.

On the way back, Jewel flushed with anger.

“Hannah is horrible!” She slammed her fist into the seat. “She can’t stand seeing you happy! She wants to mess things up between you and His Highness! What if those rumors reach His Highness and cause a misunderstanding?”

“Adam won’t misunderstand,” I said, leaning back and closing my eyes. “No one knows James better than he does.”

“Then why would Hannah do this? What does she gain?”
