Chapter 38 The Farce Ends
James’s POV:
Grandma clutched her chest, her face pale. “Enough. All of you, be quiet!”

She glanced toward the hall, where the rough rogues were still eating and drinking without a care. The sharp smell made her frown in disgust. She did not hide it. They were the only guests left. “James,” she said tightly, “go out and drink with them. No matter what, they came. We couldn’t let people accuse us of looking down on low-ranking werewolves.”
I had no choice. I turned around, forced a smile, and went out to drink with the rogues.
They had already noticed something was wrong. All the nobles were gone; of course, they had thoughts of their own.
They were rough, but not stupid. They could feel it; just like the nobles, this pack looked down on them deep inside.
“Looks like we embarrassed our boss,” someone muttered. “Let’s go. Just go.”
Being treated like dirt hurt. After a few more drinks, they cursed under their breath and finally left.
The feast ended in a complete mess.
Back in the room, I saw the chaos. Tables overturned. Broken plates on the floor. Grease everywhere. Evelyn sat on the bed, angry and silent. My temples throbbed. My vision went dark.
“Was this really necessary?” I forced the words out through my teeth.
Evelyn turned and shouted back, full of justification. “I have been wronged. Why wouldn’t I be mad? I’ve never seen anyone run a feast this badly!”
I looked at her and suddenly felt exhausted.
Deep in my mind, Kenzi let out a tired sigh, as if mocking my choice.
Before, no matter how much trouble I faced outside, home was always calm. Cindy would be there with a warm glass of milk and a proper meal. The house was neat. Even my armor was polished and ready. The air always carried a clean cedar scent.
But now, there was only oil on the floor and the sharp stink of alcohol.
I stared at the mess. That belief I once held so firmly that Evelyn was my true soulmate showed its first
crack.
To prove I hadn’t chosen wrong, I took a deep breath, swallowed my frustration, and endured it.
Prince Adam’s POV:
The snowstorm of Northmere had never felt so beautiful to me. All because of that silver figure standing

within it.
At first, I believed my attention toward Cindy came from duty. From my father’s guilt toward the children of fallen heroes. From my respect for her courage to break a bond.
But escorting her back to the ruins of Silverpeak Pack changed everything. I saw her stand in the wasteland, scarred and broken, and summoned her scattered people home with a single long howl. I saw her shed her gowns and put on simple battle gear, commanding the rebuilding of herself in wind and snow. In her eyes was something rare-strength, compassion, and the quiet presence of a true ruler, all woven together.
I had to admit it. My wolf spirit-the proud golden giant wolf that had never bowed to any female-had been moved.
Compared to the delicate noble she-wolves of the Royal Court, who survived only by clinging to an Alpha. Cindy was different. She was the flower blooming on an icy cliff. Cold. Strong. Impossible to ignore. She made one want to conquer her, yet fear to disrespect her.
On the day of departure, the Royal Guards had already formed up.
My father’s order had arrived as well.
He was sending me south to deal with the hyenas of Uclela. It was my task to earn my own victories and build my record.
I would not be returning to the Royal Court for a long time.
I stood beneath the newly raised totem pole of Silverpeak Pack and watched Cindy walk toward me to see me off.
“Thank you, your Highness, for your protection and kindness along the way,” she said, bowing slightly. Her manners were flawless, yet distant.
I dismissed my attendants and took a deep breath. The cold air of Northmere cooled my burning throat.
“Cindy,” I said, not using her title, calling her by name instead. My voice was tight. “Rebuilding the pack will not be easy. Even with your title, other packs will still covet your land. And the vampire threat has never truly gone away.”
She looked up. Her silver eyes were calm, like still water. “I understand.” Cindy said. “Since I chose this path, I will not fear storms.”
“You don’t have to face those storms alone.” I stepped closer. My golden eyes locked onto hers, and I could no longer hold back. “If you are willing, the Royal Court can be your strongest support. Perhaps you could
consider it.”
Cindy froze for a moment. Surprise flickered across her eyes.
I realized at once that she was different than other she-wolves. I quickly added, “I mean, if you ever need achievements or backing, you can come find me in Southreach.”
