The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 19

Outside the bedroom.

"Miss..." Mr. Flint murmured.

Victoria raised a finger to her lips, signaling for Mr. Flint to be quiet.

"Mr. Flint, don't tell my brother," Victoria said with a faint smile, glancing down at the bowl of soup in her hands. "Come on, let's go in."

...

After having dinner at the Sanger estate, Victoria returned to The Imperial Crest Estates and waited for Elias in the living room.

Perhaps it was the exhaustion from her seven-day business trip, but she fell asleep while waiting.

It wasn't until Anne gently woke her that she stirred.

Victoria glanced at the brightening sky outside and realized it was already the next morning.

Elias still hadn't come home.

She picked up her phone and tapped on the first contact in her chat list—Elias. Their last message was from seven hours ago, when she had asked him when he would be back.

There were only two days left. She had to see Elias today, no matter what.

...

A BMW MINI pulled up outside The Shawn Group just after nine in the morning, right as employees were arriving for work.

Victoria got out of the car and walked into The Shawn Group building for the second time.

Because she and Elias had only registered their marriage without a wedding or a public announcement, the receptionist had no idea who she was.

So when Victoria said she wanted to see Elias, the receptionist's first instinct was to turn her away.

Elias was the head of The Shawn Group, after all. He wasn't someone just anyone could see.

But then the receptionist recognized Victoria's face from the day before, remembering clearly that she had seen Assistant Hawk speaking with her.

After a moment of hesitation, she decided to call Assistant Hawk's office.

Five minutes later, the receptionist hung up the phone, her face cold. "I'm sorry, Mr. Shawn doesn't want to see you. Please leave."

"I really have something important to discuss..."

"Everyone who comes looking for Mr. Shawn says they have something important," the receptionist sneered, her tone dripping with contempt. "Miss Sanger, I suggest you take a look in the mirror and see if you're even qualified. Now go. If you don't leave, I'll have to call security."

Victoria's lips tightened, her lashes lowered as she stood there, lost in thought.

The receptionist, losing her patience, called out, "Security, get over here and remove this—hey! Stop! My ID badge!"

Victoria dashed into an elevator, leaving the sounds of the receptionist and security behind.

"Hawk." Victoria didn't flinch, her attitude resolute. "I must see Elias today."

Hawk looked at her, and an image flashed in his mind: Victoria handing him a box of cold medicine in the biting winter wind.

That was the first time he had seen her after she and Elias had registered their marriage.

She had made lunch and brought it to Elias at a construction site. Elias hadn't even looked at it before throwing it in the trash right in front of her.

Her eyes had been red, and though she was clearly hurt, she had held back her tears and quickly left. He had thought she'd gone home, but a little while later, she returned with a box of cold medicine.

"Assistant Hawk," she had said, "I noticed you were coughing a lot. This medicine is good for a cough. You should try it."

Remembering this, Hawk's expression softened slightly. He called off the bodyguards.

"You two can go."

The bodyguards were confused but obeyed and left.

"Hawk..." Victoria was a bit surprised, but time was short. As soon as the bodyguards were gone, she tried to move past him toward the office.

Hawk stopped her. "Mrs. Shawn, Mr. Shawn is not in his office."

Victoria froze.

Hawk looked at her and said, "Mr. Shawn is in a meeting. It will last for about two more hours. According to his schedule, he will be leaving directly for a dinner engagement afterward."
