The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 245

Staring at the text message, Victoria had the strange feeling she was being set up.

But the car accident had happened right before her eyes, so she couldn't figure out what was wrong with the situation.

Her expression darkened as she recalled the moment of the crash.

She lowered her gaze to the man on the hospital bed, unsure how she should feel about him now.

The moment she saw the license plate that could only belong to Elias, she had briefly wondered if he was in the car, but she had quickly dismissed the thought.

In her mind, Elias wasn't someone who would risk his own life to save her. He was the type who would stand by and coldly watch her die.

And yet, he had been the one to get out of the driver's seat.

Victoria couldn't quite put a name to the feeling, but her emotions were suddenly a tangled mess. She couldn't understand it.

She couldn't understand why, just when she was finally ready to let go of this relationship, just when she was trying to put distance between them…

He had to be the one to save her.

As she thought about it, Victoria's hands clenched into fists. She turned and walked out of the room.

She didn't notice that as the door clicked shut behind her, the man who was supposed to be unconscious on the bed opened his eyes. They were dark and inscrutable, as deep as an abyss.

-

Night fell.

Victoria waited outside the room for Hawk to arrive.

But time ticked by, the night grew deeper, and there was still no word from him.

The shock from the day's events had kept her nerves on edge.

Now, having learned that the hospital had simply made a mistake and Garnett was fine, and that Elias's injuries weren't serious, she finally relaxed. Sitting on the bench, she drifted off and fell into a deep sleep.

Half an hour later, the door to the hospital room opened from the inside.

A tall man walked over to the bench. He looked down at the woman curled up in sleep, then bent down and lifted her into his arms.

Victoria was so exhausted that she didn't stir. As Elias picked her up, she simply turned her face and buried her head in his chest.

Elias carried her into the room and placed her on the bed.

The moment she touched the mattress, Victoria rolled over.

Elias took it, his dark eyes narrowing. "Henry?"

Hawk nodded. "Yes, him. The van driver is the nurse's husband. Their daughter was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect a couple of months ago and they urgently needed a large sum of money for surgery. Henry must have found out about their daughter's condition through some channel and used the money to bribe them into targeting Ms. Sanger."

"What's his motive?"

Elias turned to look at him, seemingly guessing what Hawk was thinking. He spoke again, his tone cold. "You think this has something to do with Gen? Have you found anything from the background check I had you run on her?"

Hawk considered this. "We checked Ms. Vale's call logs and her whereabouts, but we didn't find anything unusual. My suspicion is based solely on the fact that Henry is Ms. Vale's ex-husband…"

Henry had no connection to Victoria. Without someone pulling the strings, he would have no reason to go after her.

And the only person who had ties to both Henry and Victoria was Genevieve.

It was hard not to wonder what role she might have played in this.

Elias understood the logic as well as Hawk did.

His brows furrowed, and after a few seconds of silence, he said:

"It couldn't have been her."
