The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 257

Elias grabbed her hand, stopping her from shaking him. "Let me sleep a little longer."

His palm was dry and scorching hot.

Victoria's brow furrowed. "Elias, you can't sleep anymore. Get up, I'm taking you to the hospital."

He didn't answer.

"Elias!" Her voice grew frantic as she tried to pull him up.

But she used all her strength, and the man on the sofa remained motionless, lost in his feverish state. She nearly lost her balance and was pulled down on top of him.

This wasn't working.

Victoria grabbed her phone and found Hawk's contact information.

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is busy. Please try again later."

Victoria called five or six more times, but no one answered. Finally, with no other choice, she opened her contacts again. Her finger scrolled down the list and stopped on a name.

-

Half an hour later, in the bedroom.

The doctor glanced at the ear thermometer he'd used on Elias and turned to Tobias Holt and Victoria. "Mr. Shawn's fever is starting to break. He should be fine after the IV drip is finished."

Victoria thanked him quietly.

The doctor packed up his medical bag and smiled. "It was no trouble at all. However, Mr. Shawn was in a car accident just a few days ago. He has a mild concussion and needs to rest. I'd advise against him moving around too much, if possible."

Hearing this, Victoria's gaze fell on the still-unconscious man on the bed. After a moment of silence, she asked, "Doctor, what about the burn on his wrist...?"

"Oh, that's nothing serious. Standard cleaning agents are corrosive, but not strongly so. I've already treated it for Mr. Shawn. Just apply some burn cream for the next few days, and it will be fine."

Victoria nodded and thanked him again. "Thank you. I really appreciate you coming."

Victoria looked at him and opened her mouth to say something.

But Tobias seemed to guess her thoughts and spoke first. "Try it and see if you like it."

Victoria swallowed the words she was about to say. She picked up a fork, took a bite, and her eyes lit up at the taste. "Is this beef?"

Tobias watched her lively expression and sat down. "Yeah. I bought it from that place across the street from your complex. If you like it, I can bring you more."

"It's delicious," Victoria said, then paused. "But it's too much trouble for you to bring it. You're always so busy."

"Victoria, it's not trouble," Tobias said seriously, meeting her eyes. "Nothing involving you is ever trouble for me."

Victoria froze.

Tobias peeled an egg and placed it in her bowl. "Victoria, honestly, when I saw him here, I had a lot of questions for you. But... while I was outside, I realized that the answers don't really matter to me."

"What matters is that there's something I've kept to myself for a long time. And now, I need you to listen."
