The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 43

The next day, in the OB/GYN clinic.

"The reason your cramps are so severe this time is mainly because you didn't rest and recover properly after your miscarriage. I've prescribed a painkiller injection and some medication to help regulate your system. Take these for a while."

Victoria's gaze fell. Her period had started not long after she returned from The Cloudscape last night. At first, it was just a dull ache, and she thought a painkiller would do the trick. But the medicine had no effect, and the pain persisted through the morning, making it almost impossible to get out of bed.

With no other choice, she had taken a half-day off to see a doctor.

The doctor handed her the prescription. "On another note, are you and your husband planning to have children?"

Victoria froze.

The doctor explained, "Your test results show that your uterine lining is quite thin. Combined with the previous miscarriage, it will be much more difficult for you to conceive than for most people. It's very possible that..."

Victoria placed a hand on her abdomen, her fingers curling slightly. "You mean I might not be able to have my own children again, right?"

The doctor's silence was its own answer.

"Thank you, doctor."

Victoria said nothing. She walked out of the clinic in a daze, her chest tight like someone had reached in and grabbed hold.

"My baby, are you blaming me for not protecting you? Is that why I don’t get to have you again?"

"Victoria!"

A deep, sharp voice cut through her thoughts. Victoria whipped her head around to see Elias, still wearing the same suit from last night.

So, after that phone call, he had come to the hospital and stayed all night? Who was here? Genevieve?

"What are you doing here?" Elias's dark eyes narrowed, his gaze unreadable as it swept over her. "Are you following me?"

Feeling his accusatory stare, Victoria instinctively hid the hand holding the prescription behind her back. "No."

She was fast, but not fast enough to escape his notice.

"What's in your hand? Show me."

Victoria's fingers tightened around the prescription. His words from last night echoed in her mind, and her first instinct was to hide it.

She wouldn't let him tear open her wounds and trample on them again.

"It's nothing..." she said, taking a small step back. If he tried to grab it, she would rip it to shreds.

Elias's face instantly darkened.

She clenched her fists and let out a cold laugh. Her eyes swept over the two of them, and the fight inside her deflated like a popped balloon. She turned and walked towards the elevators without looking back.

Elias frowned. Seeing the dismissiveness and scorn in her eyes, he felt an inexplicable tightness in his chest.

What was that supposed to mean? That look in her eyes!

She was the one following him, the one in the wrong, yet she was acting like he was the one to blame?

He took a step to go after her and demand an explanation, but Genevieve's ankle suddenly gave way. "Ah!" she cried, falling directly into his arms.

Elias's eyes tightened. "Are you hurt?"

"I'm fine, it's just..." Genevieve's face was a little pale. She shook her head and glanced down at her ankle. "It hurts a bit. I don't think I can walk."

Elias's dark eyes narrowed. He looked in the direction Victoria had gone, but she was already out of sight. He then looked down at Genevieve, who was biting her lip in pain. After a moment's hesitation, he bent down, scooped her up in his arms, and walked in the opposite direction.

Nestled in Elias's arms, Genevieve's lips curved into a faint smile.

She looked up and saw the sign for the OB/GYN department. A thought crossed her mind, and her expression darkened slightly. She pulled out her phone and sent a text:

[Find out why Victoria was at the OB/GYN clinic.]
