As soon as Cane mentioned the Asturi stem and the monsters in the north, Aeon knew what he was up to. Cane had discovered about what he had done in the north and now he was threatening him slyly.
At this point, neither Alan nor the King knew the Asturi stem that they were looking for was already in Cane’s hand.
The King could see the subtle hint that Cane gave him, but Alan, of course, was oblivious to all that. He was too mad because Cane talked about meaningless things.
"Asturi stem is not a common substance, my men and I have been tracking down the buyers to help Alpha Derick to figure this out."
The Celestial Moon pack was the only pack in the north and they were engaged in constant battle throughout the years because of the monster waves. Heavens only knew what Alpha Derick would do if he learned and got hold of the evidence that the King had been playing with the lives of his pack members by aggravating the monsters.
Some people were a little bit confused as to why the topic of the conversation changed so drastically all of a sudden, though it was important to know there was someone who tried something so dirty by using the Asturi stem.
"Do you think this is a provocation from an outsider?" Kade, one of the King’s right hand men, spoke. He was hailed from the Celestial Moon pack and was a representative in the court, so of course, he was way more vocal than the rest of the King’s right hand men.
"It can be an outsider," Cane agreed casually and then he looked at the King with a hint of mocking smile in his eyes. "Or it can be an insider."
Lou, who had been forgotten, stared at Cane. He touched his chin and tried to think about what the Alpha was trying to hint at.
However, before Cane could continue to speak, he felt Iris hold his hand. She clasped his right hand with both of hers, which surprised him because she had never usually taken the initiative to touch him.
Cane turned his head, he looked at her questioningly, but her eyes were fixed on their entwined fingers. Her little face looked very serious, which made him frown. What was she doing?
But, Cane’s attention brought back to the problem at hand when the King finally decided to punish Ethan with a home arrest, instead of directly taking him to the dungeon. He did this to placate Cane, because he intended to have a long conversation with his nephew regarding what he knew about the Asturi stem and how far his investigation had gone.
No matter what, the King feared the north would rebel. After all, they were the only defense against the vicious monsters.
Not to mention, King Aeon could see Kade would grill him with this issue and not let it slide like they did with the rumors about dark magic.
Yet, Alan was furious to hear that. That was not what he expected. "HOUSE ARREST?!" He stood up from his seat again and looked at his father, feeling infuriated. "Father! How can you call yourself a fair king?! You should hold up justice for your son!"
This time, it was Princess Osana who had enough of the Crown Prince. "Someone come! Take the Crown Prince to his palace! He needs to rest!"
Messing up the already bad relationship between the King and the north was the step that Cane took, as he would only sow more discord between them.
This time, Princess Osana stepped forward and talked to the King respectfully, as she officially introduced Lou.
"This is the merchant from the Rosantine guild that I mentioned the other day," Princess Osana said, as she opened her arm toward Lou. "He wants to invest in the research of magical devices."
Only then did the king pay attention to the man in the red cloak beside Cane. "Hm, so you are the merchant from the Rosantine guild?"
"Yes, My King, it is my honor to be invited to the palace and meet you in person, all thanks to Princess Osana."
At this point, Cane had stopped listening to his surroundings, not even the business that Lou had in the capital city interested him anymore, because he had different goals to be here, thus what this eccentric merchant wanted had nothing to do with him.
Right now, Cane was staring at his mate, he squeezed her hand that clasped his lightly to get her attention.
’What is it?’ Cane mouthed. He thought she was feeling uncomfortable or something.
