Chapter 226: A VULGAR CONVERSATION AT THE TABLE

Cane stayed like that for another minute, until the clamoring sounds from outside became even more lively.

But, the moment he let her go, he returned to his usual self. There was no trace of vulnerability on him. He looked as calm as ever and seemed even more taciturn, as he held Iris’ hand before they walked out of the room.

"Stay with me," Cane said, but Iris didn’t respond to that.

She stared at his side profile and felt down. Until when would he continue to act that everything happened between them had never happened? He would never mention it, nor would he acknowledge it.

She was sure that he said something, she could feel it when he was saying something against her shoulder, though she couldn’t hear it. She really wanted to know what that was.

But, there was no way Cane would ever tell her. Iris felt her heart constrict, she stared at the way he held her hand, but said nothing to him, as both of them walked toward the main hall, where the King and the Queen, so did his mistresses and all the royal family members, would be there.

The party tonight was so lively and just like any other party, you could smell sex and alcohol in the air, though many people would prefer to watch attraction and amusement, as they gobbled up endless savoring dishes, delectable food and good wine that came from the royal kitchen.

Iris sat down next to Cane at a large and long dining table, which was occupied by around fifty people. All the mistresses stood behind their men, while only the official mates would sit at the table, accompanying their men.

And because Cane only had Iris with no mistress whatsoever, it was a distinguished sight, because no one stood behind them. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Aside from the royal family, the Royal Beta, the Royal Gamma, the Royal Advisors and the King’s five right hand men were allowed to sit there. They flanked the King and Queen, as their mistresses stood behind them.

Additionally, there was Lou, who was sitting next to princess Osana. The merchant grinned at Iris when he saw her and waved his hand, as if they were long time best friends, but Iris pretended she didn’t see that.

Next to the King was the Crown Prince, Alan, with his official mate. He couldn’t stop glaring at Cane from the moment he entered the room. Someone must have warned him not to provoke the Alpha beforehand, since it was quite uncharacteristic of him to keep his mouth shut.

Iris looked around and was stunned to see how many mistresses each of these men had. Even the King himself only brought his twelve most favored mistresses, while he had many more. Iris was doubtful he even remembered them all.

Jeremiah was one of the King’s right hand men; he hailed from the Golden Light pack in the west kingdom, the same area where the Red Claw pack was.

Golden Light was the most populated pack and had the largest area in this continent, thus all the royal guards came from this pack, as they had many people there to be trained as the guards or warriors.

Hearing that, Cane’s eyes turned slightly darker, but his expression remained the same. "I was too busy, I will pay more visits to her bedroom," he replied simply. He said it in a way that it was his fault to not visit Iris often.

On the other hand, Iris missed the first few sentences of the conversation, but when she realized Cane spoke to someone, she raised her head and paid close attention to her surroundings.

"You should take precaution, after all, she is a runt, probably she had a problem in her reproductive organs and she can’t bear any child," Jeremiah slurred. He started laughing lightly, followed by the others.

"Having a few mistresses is good for you, Alpha Cane," Archie, the King’s advisor chimed in. He himself only had two mistresses, but he had a lot of slaves. He was already so old, though. Some of the slaves could even be mistaken as his granddaughters instead. "You are the last in your bloodline, after all."

Iris felt her heart racing when she heard those words, as she looked at Cane’s expression. She knew very well that no matter how many mistresses Cane had, he would never have a child of his own, since it had been confirmed that he was sterile.
