Iris could feel her face turn red when Cane mentioned last night. She didn’t remember it... at first. But then, snippets of what had happened came to her mind one after one, reminding her of her actions.
She had kissed him!
Iris even remembered what she said to him when she kissed him in front of so many people, yet she was too embarrassed to admit it.
"Are you sure, you don’t remember?" Cane looked amused at her blatant lie.
"Yes, I am sure..." Iris bit her lip, feeling guilty because she lied. She thought Cane would press her further, but he dropped it easily.
"Okay." He nodded and then handed over the cup of tea in his hand, as he took the glass from her. "Drink this. I will ask for our breakfast."
Cane stood up and went to the table, where there were two trays of breakfast, he then grabbed the lizard, which was sleeping on top of the table and used the creature to light up the fireplace, before he threw all the food into the flames.
The lizard made a squeaking noise and then rushed away once Cane was done with it. Its pride was hurt.
On the other hand, Cane didn’t pay attention to that creature, the only thing in his mind was how to discover more of its abilities and who was that mysterious man from the other day.
And the reason why he threw their breakfast, even though they didn’t eat anything last night, was because Cane didn’t want to eat anything that was served to them in this pack. Firstly, it was for their own safety, since they didn’t know whether Alpha Gill would put something in their meal and secondly, because it disgusted Cane to see how they used food for acts of pleasure.
Iris was bewildered that Cane wasted food, but said nothing, as she was still occupied with the thought of her kissing him. She was afraid for some reason and chose to drink her tea silently.
Not long after that, Jace came knocking on the door, bringing their breakfast, it was only a few pieces of bread and scrambled egg. Though, it was not much, but it was safer for them to consume.
Cane took the tray and closed the door after he instructed something to his beta. He then went to the bed and put the tray on it.
"Eat. You will feel better."
Iris munched on her bread, but she felt uncomfortable because she lied to him, thus she gathered up her courage to admit it.
"I..." She bit her lip nervously and lifted her head sheepishly. "I remembered what happened last night. I am sorry." She apologized for lying to him and also for kissing him.
"I know," Cane said simply. "Finish your breakfast."
=============================
Alpha Dristan from the Red Claw pack and Koda, along with their pack warriors and the royal warriors and some warriors from the Howling Wolf pack, led by Ethan, marched toward the Riverside pack.
The Alpha felt humiliated because of what happened to Prince Vemion and Koda was enraged because his grandson died in such a brutal way.
The once sweet boy had changed and his change was destructive to both him and the people around him.
==========================
It had been a week since Iris and Cane arrived in the Riverside pack and the Alpha was very busy with a lot of things, until she could no longer keep up with what he was up to.
Thankfully, Redmond arrived the day before and had been accompanying Iris.
But truth to be told, he was not a good companion and they spent their time with Redmond teaching Iris how to ride a horse properly. The only setback was, he always ended up scolding her, because she kept doing it wrongly, not living up to his high expectations whatsoever.
"I will not be riding this horse anymore!" Iris fumed after she found herself being scolded for the nth time because she placed her feet wrongly.
"And then what? Will you expect your mate to ride with you every time?!" Redmond scoffed. "What if you are in a situation where you have to run away?! He can shift into his beast and escape pretty quickly, but what about you?"
"I will ride him then!" Iris blurted out, but then her face turned very red because how wrong it sounded to say such a thing.
Well, Redmond knew what she meant, after all, he was well aware how they reached this pack, yet it sounded a little bit obscene to hear her say it out loud.
"I will ask someone else to teach me! I don’t want you to teach me again!" Iris immediately ran away, she felt so embarrassed for what she said and couldn’t face Redmond right now.
