"You let her kiss you and then you kissed her in the garden." Jace held his breath when the question left his lips. "Why?"
Hearing the question, Cane was as stoic as ever, he didn’t even flinch, nor did he show any emotions.
However, the Beta should have seen this coming, since he knew Cane all too well and an explanation wouldn’t come from him easily.
"Have you found the King’s spy?" Cane asked, his eyes glinted with seriousness, which left Jace speechless. It was so clear he was dodging the question.
"We found more clues about this person and I think we will only need a few more pieces of evidence that he couldn’t avoid before he can be dealt with."
Cane nodded. "Do it quickly." And with that, he turned around and entered the room, closing the door behind him.
Meanwhile, Jace was left alone without getting the answer he wanted. "Damn it!" He cursed under his breath. "Why is Ethan not here yet?!"
He would put the Gamma through an interrogation so he would get a better understanding and all the details about what was going on with their alpha.
On the other hand, inside the room, Cane didn’t immediately go to the bed to accompany Iris. He stood behind the closed door, contemplating something. His eyes looked hazy as a lot of emotions flashed in his black eyes. He would frown, but then his lips would press into a thin line. Occasionally, he would direct his gaze toward the bed, where his mate was sleeping.
From where he was standing, the only thing he could see was her curly, auburn hair, as her small face was covered by it.
It took Cane a long while before he finally sorted out whatever things that bothered him and walked over to his mate. The bed dipped a little when he laid down next to Iris again. He stared at her for a while, observing her sleeping face and simply staring at her absentmindedly.
But before long, he leaned over, so close until his lips were only a breath away from hers. He stared at those swollen lips and pulled away, yet in the next second, he leaned back and pressed his lips gently against hers. Her warm breath caressed his cheek, as he ran his tongue over her lips. He must have bitten her too harshly when he kissed her earlier because he could feel the wound and taste of blood.
"Sorry," he whispered softly against her lips.
Iris wouldn’t know what Cane had done. She had a blissful sleep.
Just like Iris, he was curious why they rode the horses through the main street of this pack, while the people hid themselves and opened the path for them, afraid to offend the Alpha from the Howling Wolf pack, who had executed the five alphas and led the border warriors. freewebnσvel.cѳm
"Let’s get down here," Cane said, as he stopped the horse and got off, he helped Iris to get down as well, while his mate looked a little bit confused, since she thought they only wanted to observe this area.
Iris was also curious about those carriages behind them. At least, there were ten to twelve carriages at the end of this long entourage.
Yes, Cane marched with at least a hundred warriors, most of them were warriors from the Howling Wolf pack.
But behind the carriages were the warriors from the Riverside pack. Their hands and legs were tied with chains, but they were not silver, thus it was safe to assume they had been fed with Rottingbane. They wouldn’t be able to shift into their beasts.
"What are we going to do here?" Iris asked Cane, from the corner of her eyes, she could see how the people stared at them with curiosity and fear evident in their eyes.
"We are giving away food," Cane answered simply and signaled for his men to start opening the carriages, which were filled with a lot of food for all the starving people.
