The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter novel Chapter 400

Chapter 400: IRIS WAS BEING ANXIOUS

There must be a reason why the lycan chose Iris and recognized her as his mate and if the lycan was so powerful to attach his soul to someone else in order to find his mate, there was a high possibility this said woman was not ordinary either.

That was what was in Cane’s mind when he ordered Haco to look for more information on the lycan and his mate.

But, this dense dark sorcerer had to open his mouth and irk him with his reckless comment.

"I am going, I am going, you don’t need to be so upset with me, what have I done?" Haco whimpered, as he scrambled out of the carriage, afraid the Alpha would snarl at him again.

Meanwhile, outside of the carriage, Jace had two of his warriors drag a warrior from the Red Claw pack straight to their alpha. The man looked helpless as he was caught red- handed eavesdropping on the conversation inside the carriage.

"May I know, what do you mean with this, Alpha Dristan?" Jace asked, he didn’t raise his voice into an accusatory tone, but it was firm.

"What do you mean, Beta Jace?" Alpha Dristan feigned innocence when he saw that his man had been caught. His expression didn’t change, nor did he show any surprise, he looked completely clueless.

"I caught one of your men outside of my alpha’s carriage, trying to eavesdrop on their conversation," Jace said in a matter of fact tone. He looked Alpha Dristan straight in the eyes and watched how his innocent expression morphed into a surprised one.

"Really?" Alpha Dristan was in disbelief. He glared at the man behind Jace.

"I don’t know anything about that," Alpha Dristan said. "I do not condone such behavior."

"Are you trying to say, he did something without your order, Alpha Dristan?" Jace asked, his expression was as stoic as ever. "A warrior makes a move only if he is ordered."

"Beta Jace, the way you talk about it, it sounds as if you are trying to picture me as the villain here. Why would I breach the trust that Alpha Cane has in me? We are only starting to have a collaboration, there is no way I will risk that."

[Did you find something?] He asked the warrior through the mind link.

[My apologies. No. I wasn’t able to hear anything, Alpha.] The warrior replied through the mind link as well.

Alpha Dristan then nodded at his personal warrior, who was standing next to him, as he moved so fast past Jace and snapped the head of the warrior. It happened so fast, Jace didn’t even have time to react, nor did the two warriors, who were holding the dead body now. They didn’t expect this.

Once the job was done, Alpha Dristan’s personal warrior returned to his side. He didn’t show any emotions and from what Jace gathered, his name was Warren.

"Like I said, I do not condone such behavior. I will discipline my men in the future, so they will not cause any trouble. You can rest assured, Beta Jace, and my apologies for the inconvenience."

Not only did Alpha Dristan kill the warrior, but it was also a show of power that his personal warrior had displayed.

Cane put down the report and looked at his mate, he was so patient with her when he explained. "Because Haco had done something to this carriage, no matter how loud you are inside this carriage and no matter how close someone was trying to eavesdrop, they will not be able to hear anything from the outside."

"Really?" Iris’ eyes widened in surprise and admiration. "There is magic like that?" She looked interested. "What else can magic do?"

"Hm." Cane nodded and continued with what he was doing. "You need to ask Haco about that."

"If I can use magic, can I do things like that too?" Iris looked so excited. For someone who spent all her life called useless, she finally found something incredible about herself. Iris felt so good.

"I don’t know. You need to ask Haco about that."

And Iris was being her cheerful self and asked a few more questions related to magic, over which Cane didn’t have any knowledge.

"Iris," Cane called her name calmly and put down the report in his hand for the second time.

Iris immediately clamped her mouth shut, realizing how she had talked too much, while he was reading, but somehow, she liked it every time she knew he called her name. "Okay, I will not say anything."

Iris leaned her body against the seat, but then Cane pulled her closer and pressed her head to his shoulder, as he continued reading.
