This soft smoke in the shape of wolf was in the same color as Cane’s wolf and this gave off the same feeling as when she saw a similar thing appear when Alpha Gill tried to disgrace her. But Cane didn’t seem to see it. He didn’t give any indication that he did, even though the black smoke floated above his head, as if it was a living thing.
"Calm down, Iris!" Cane said sternly, he didn’t want to hurt her, but she wouldn’t stop struggling to get away from him and rush further into the forest. "You can go anywhere, but not the forest!"
He would let her do whatever she wanted to vent out her anger, but not to the point of endangering herself.
However, Iris couldn’t take it anymore, she felt so suffocated to be in that pack. She didn’t want to return to that place and be in that awkward situation with them anymore, especially after what happened with Kaz and the others.
They bonded with each other like family and with her not forgiving them, she could imagine what kind of judgment they would throw at her.
Yes, Cane could prevent them from disrespecting her, but it was not the same when you were being respected genuinely.
Iris was desperate, she didn’t want to go back, she didn’t want to see them at all! She wanted to leave.
Being a snack for the monsters probably would be a better choice than having to prolong her suffering under their judgmental gazes.
In her desperation, Iris managed to free one hand and grab the smoke, which was in the shape of a wolf and squeezed it. She did that out of instinct, her last attempt to free herself from Cane and his people. She didn’t want to go back.
"Ah!" Cane dropped to his knees and clutched at his chest, as he let go of Iris’ hands. He felt this sharp and sudden pain in his chest, which made his whole body shake. It almost felt like someone just squeezed his heart and it stopped for a second.
On the other hand, Iris was stunned to see Cane writhe in so much pain. She froze, unable to move, as Cane breathed raggedly, clutching at his chest. His face contorted, showing how agonized he was feeling and this snapped Iris back to reality.
She remembered Alpha Gill was also in so much pain when she strangled the smoke in the shape of a wolf that hovered around him.
What was going on?
"C- Cane?" Iris stammered when she realized what she had done. "Cane? Are you okay?" All of her grievances were replaced with worries, as she dropped to her knees and tried to check on him. "Are you in pain? Cane? Say something..." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
And that was the last thing Cane remembered, as he sunk into the abyss of the darkness.
Meanwhile, Iris couldn’t stop shaking, as she shouted his name a few more times seeing that Cane didn’t respond to her. His body was so cold and her anxiety hit the roof when all of a sudden Cane’s body relaxed and he dropped his hands that were clutching his chest.
He fell to the ground and this made Iris scream, a strong panic attack hit her so hard, she almost couldn’t breathe herself.
Did she kill him? What had she done?!
"C- Cane...? Cane, please, you are scaring me..." Iris cried so hard, her tears blurred her vision, as she clasped her hands hard and prayed like crazy to the goddesses that he would be fine. "Cane, please open your eyes, you are scaring me..."
However, before Iris could check his breathing, Cane opened his eyes and she breathed in relief, but then she saw his red eyes. That red color was the reddest color she had ever seen and this stopped Iris from touching him.
Cane pushed his body off the ground, as if nothing happened, then stared at her. "Na..."
