The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter novel Chapter 459

Chapter 459: A TRAP

Alpha Dristan greeted Iris politely. He looked like he was in a good mood, while the woman that was riding with him lowered her head. She looked so young, probably no more than eighteen or seventeen years old, while Alpha Dristan was twice her age.

"Is this your first time going hunting?" Alpha Dristan rode his horse so close to Cane and Iris’ horse, as he nodded politely at the Alpha to acknowledge him.

"Yes," Iris replied with a small smile, but her mind was on the young woman. She looked so skinny and pale. She must be one of the hundreds of people that had been starved by Alpha Gill, but even after the Alpha had died, she needed to deal with another alpha.

"Don’t be scared, a lot of warriors had come with us, nothing would go wrong in the mountains," Alpha Dristan reassured Iris.

But that was not the reassurance that she needed. Iris blinked her eyes and spoke innocently. "I am not afraid. I am with my mate and Cane knows this mountain like the back of his hand. It’s great the royal warriors are here, so no one will get lost and bother my mate."

Iris didn’t mean to sound so sarcastic when she spoke, but when she saw the young woman, she felt so vexed. Whatever that happened between Alpha Dristan and her, it must be something dreadful for her, because it was written all over her face.

Iris hated it.

On the other hand, Alpha Dristan was slightly taken aback hearing how fierce her answer was, because he didn’t expect such a harsh comeback from her, but he masked it well and before he could continue bothering her, Cane had taken over the conversation.

"Where are your people?" Cane asked. He could only see the royal warriors, while none of the warriors from the Red Claw pack could be seen nearby.

"I only brought two with me," Alpha Dristan replied, nodding to the two personal guards of his riding behind him.

Cane narrowed his eyes. Something was not right about this. The amount of the royal warriors was not right. It almost felt like they were hunting a horde of monsters, instead of a few foxes.

"You left them behind?" Cane himself brought around ten people with him, which was not a significant number, but enough for this hunt.

"Yes." Alpha Dristan nodded, but when he saw Cane’s expression, his face turned serious as well. "Is there something wrong?" He looked around him and then lowered his voice even more. "The amount of the royal warriors..."

Cane said nothing and let this alpha think on his own about their current situation.

"Do you think the King is up to something?" Alpha Dristan finally came to his senses when he noticed they were indeed being surrounded by the royal warriors. In the beginning, he thought it was for their protection, since they would go hunting with the King and Lady Cyan, but wasn’t the amount too much?

"Cane?" Iris lifted her head and looked at her mate with a frown.

"Hm?" Cane kissed her head, as if to reassure her that she would be alright. "If something went wrong, leave with Dyne and Eron, understand?"

Cane didn’t know the amount of royal warriors that would go hunting with them beforehand, as they assembled at the last second, even his people were taken aback when they saw the royal warriors kept coming and joining the group.

The only advantage in their current situation was; just like what Iris said, Cane knew this mountain like the back of his hand, so did his people, since Alpha Gerald used to force them to roam around this mountain for days just to see who would survive in the end.

However, Iris ignored Cane’s instructions and asked him instead. "Are you sure this is the right path to find the white foxes?"

"I don’t think we can even find them." White fox was a sensitive creature, they needed to hunt them covertly.

"Cane, I don’t think we are heading to where the white fox is..." Iris furrowed her brows. "We are going in the direction where there are a lot of black magic stones."
