The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter novel Chapter 79

Chapter 79: UNSETTLING

Her entire body was aching badly, Iris couldn’t even describe what she felt right now, especially her heart. She felt angry, humiliated and helpless.

How could Cane be so cold and cruel toward her when he knew fully well she had nothing to do with her father?

Of all the people that were very grateful for what she had done, she wanted him to acknowledge that so badly. He even promised her that he wouldn’t let her get hurt again.

But then, he was the first person to turn around and break that promise.

"Ssh... I will bring you to your room, okay." Jace gingerly scooped her body up after he covered her with his cloak.

Iris closed her eyes, but winced when he moved her. Even a single movement was so painful, though the beta had tried his best to move as gently as possible.

Helplessly, Iris rested her head against his chest, while tears kept streaming down her cheeks. She didn’t have energy to open her eyes or tell Hanna that she was fine when she was not.

"What happened to her!? Why is she like this?!" Hanna shrieked at the first sight of her Missy. She must look horrible, but that was the last thing that concerned Iris.

She could look like a vagrant for all she cared.

Jace strode into the room and put Iris down on the bed, she whimpered when her back touched the soft mattress.

"She..." Jace frowned. It was hard to tell Hanna what actually had happened. "She... was with the alpha."

Hanna clenched her jaw tightly when she heard that. She knew what that meant and she wasn’t happy at all to say the least.

"She was with the alpha?" Hanna repeated the words through her clenched teeth. "It looks like she just endured a round of torture!"

Hanna didn’t stay to hear Jace defend his alpha again, she went to boil water so she could wipe Iris with warm water. She also needed to prepare herbs and call for Grace if her condition got worse.

On the other hand, Jace was speechless. He stared at Hanna’s retreating back. The servant was enraged to see her missy getting hurt again, while Iris curled her body and whimpered softly.

Jace stayed there until Hanna returned with a bowl of warm water and Amee.

"What are you doing here? You are not helping!" Hanna snapped at him. "I need to undress her, do you want to stay and see her naked too?!"

Amee came to Hanna and patted her shoulder to calm her down. She came to her room crying so hard, until her words were hard to fathom, since she was talking in between sobs.

"You can leave now, Jace, thank you." Amee waved her hand at the beta and saw his complicated expression, but he nodded at her and Hanna before he left the room.

"But, why does the alpha look like he is going to kill you whenever we talk to him?" Ethan kept pestering Jace about it and he wouldn’t let him go until he spilled the beans. "I know you know something."

As childish as it looked, Ethan actually blocked Jace’s way and stood right before him, he tilted his head defiantly, but the beta didn’t have time for this.

"Move aside," Jace groaned and pushed him away, and Ethan staggered because of the sudden force he used.

"You don’t need to be so violent with me." Ethan rushed after the beta. "Did you forget that tonight is the new moon? Has Iris been informed about this?"

Ethan was right, tonight was the new moon and from what he knew, the pain became more bearable for Cane when Iris was there with him.

But, after what happened, he was not sure if Iris would be there, or Cane would call for her.

Cane said nothing about it and Hanna had been so hostile toward him whenever he wanted to go or ask about Iris’ wellbeing.

It was unsettling to see Hanna like that, since they always saw her as a soft spoken person. The disappointment in her eyes was palpable.

Why did Cane do what he had done?
