The Alpha King And His Chosen Luna novel Chapter 227

The high council arrives

The high council arrives

(Caius)

Morning came sooner than I expected. The first thing I did was look toward Isla. She was still asleep beside me, her breathing calm and steady. I hoped yesterday had given her enough rest for what lay ahead.

I slipped out of bed without waking her. After dressing, I stepped quietly out of our quarters and made my way through the pack house. Warriors were already at their assigned posts, and everyone moved with purpose. They all knew the Eastern Council would arrive today.

A quiet knock stopped me before I reached the front entrance. Raith approached and inclined his head respectfully. “Our scouts reported that the Eastern Council crossed into Wraithbone a short while ago. They should reach the pack house within the hour.”

I nodded once.

“Keep every warrior alert.”

“They’re ready.”

I looked toward the main entrance. They believed they had come to judge.

I continued toward the council chamber without slowing my pace. Servants stepped aside as I passed, while warriors greeted me with respectful bows before returning to their duties. The atmosphere throughout the pack house felt quieter than usual. Everyone knew the High Council of the Eastern Territories had come to examine the return of a Celestial. No one knew this visit carried more questions than answers. or No one knew this meeting would become far more than a formal visit.

Pryor met me outside the council chamber with several documents tucked beneath his arm. Every record I had requested the previous day had been gathered exactly as instructed. The journal remained locked away in my office, untouched since Isla’s vision. It would stay there until I decided the time was right.

“Everything is prepared, Alpha King,” Pryor said.

I gave a single nod.

“The Council will want to verify the Celestial and discuss the ancient laws.”

“They’ll have that opportunity.”

I looked toward the main entrance. They believed they had come to judge. Before they left

Wraithbone, I intended to know exactly what each of them was here for.

“You left without waking me.”

I turned.

Isla stood a few feet away, fully dressed and composed. She looked as though she’d put yesterday behind her, but I knew better. The questions were still there.

“You needed the rest,” I said.

She held my gaze for a moment before walking over to stand beside me.

“How close are they?”

“Less than an hour.”

She looked toward the main entrance without saying anything else. Whatever thoughts were running through her mind, she kept them to herself. I reached for her hand, and after a moment, she slipped her fingers into mine. Together, we waited for the High Council of the

Eastern Territories to arrive.

The waiting didn’t last much longer. One of the warriors stationed at the front entrance walked inside and stopped a respectful distance away. He bowed his head before speaking. Every conversation around us came to an end.

“Alpha King, the High Council has arrived.”

I gave a single nod.

“Escort them inside.”

“Yes, Alpha King.”

The warrior bowed again before turning toward the entrance. I looked at Isla for a brief

moment before offering her my arm. She accepted it without hesitation, and together we walked forward to receive our guests.

A moment later, seven figures entered the pack house. Their travel cloaks carried the colors of the Eastern Territories, and each wore the silver crest of the High Council fastened across one shoulder. They paused only long enough to take in their surroundings before their

attention settled on Isla.

Silence filled the entrance hall.

I studied each of them as they looked at her. Some appeared curious. Some appeared curious. Others studied her as though comparing her to the stories preserved in the ancient

records. One expression held my attention a little longer than the rest, though I couldn’t have explained why.

“Welcome to Wraithbone,” I said.

The eldest among them stepped forward first. His silver hair rested neatly against the collar of his cloak, and his expression remained calm as he inclined his head. The others followed his example, each offering the formal greeting expected between the High Council and an Alpha King. Their eyes, however, continued returning to Isla.

“Alpha King Caius,” the elder said. “Thank you for receiving us.”

“You’ve traveled a long way,” I replied. “Wraithbone welcomes you.”

His gaze shifted to Isla.

“And this is the woman the old laws now recognize as the Celestial.”

“It is,” I answered before anyone else could speak.

The elder gave a respectful nod.

“We appreciate your willingness to meet with us. Matters involving the old laws are rarely simple.”

“They seldom are.”

For a moment, no one spoke. The silence wasn’t uncomfortable, but it carried the weight of everything that had brought us together. Seven council members stood before me, each carrying their own opinions about what should happen next.

I stepped aside and gestured toward the council chamber.

“Please. We have much to discuss.”

Without another word, they followed me through the pack house. I remained aware of every movement behind me. Whether they had come seeking understanding or hoping to defend the old ways, I intended to hear every word they had to say before this meeting was over.

The walk to the council chamber passed in silence. Warriors standing along the hallway lowered their heads as we went by, while servants quietly stepped aside to clear the path. The council members took in every detail of the pack house without asking a single question. I noticed more than one of them studying the banners that marked Wraithbone as the seat of the Alpha King.

When we reached the chamber, Pryor opened the doors and stood aside.

“The chamber is ready, Alpha King.”
