The Alpha King And His Chosen Luna novel Chapter 56

The truth she was denied3

What did he say?I asked

Very little, she said. He agreed that you should hear this only when I was certain.

I looked at the window again.

That sounded like him. Not rushing in with answers. Not turning the moment into something about what he felt or wanted from it. Waiting until it could be spoken clearly. Giving it space first. I did not know why that mattered to me in this moment. But it did.

Will it happen all at once?I asked.

I don’t know,Sera said honestly. Maybe not. There may be more heat. More pressure. More sharpening in your senses. You may feel anger differently. Hunger differently. Space differently. Or it may stay small a little longer and build from there. She paused. I need you to tell me when it changes.

I nodded once.

She leaned forward slightly, not enough to crowd me. Luna, look at me.”

I did.

This does not mean you have to become something by tonight or tomorrow,” she said. There is no failure in this if it takes time. There is no failure if it hurts. There is no failure if you are frightened.”

Something in my chest moved at that. Not warmth. Something else. Something like grief turned in another

direction.

I don’t know what to do with this,I said.

You don’t have to do anything with it yet,” she said. You only have to know that it is true.”

I sat with that.

True.

Not hope. Not maybe. Not if. True.

It should have felt good. Clean. Simple. It did not. Not yet. It felt too large and too late and too tangled up with everything that had been done in the years before it. But under all of that, under the anger and the disbelief and the sense of something breaking open in a way I could not control, there was another feeling. Small. Careful. Barely there.

Mine.

My wolf.

I looked down at my hands and thought, not for the first time, that the smallest things were the hardest to hold because they mattered most.

I need some time,I said.

Sera nodded. Take it

She stood and closed the case and left it where it was for a moment. I will come back later, she said.

Not to ask more questions. Just to check on you.

I nodded again.

She moved to the door, then stopped and looked back at me. Whatever they told you about yourself was wrong.

I could not answer that. Not yet.

After she left I stayed where I was. The room was still the same room. The forest was still outside the window. The book was still on the chair by the glass. Nothing had changed around me.
