Chapter 107
I shook my head rapidly, tearsspilling out of my eyes.
“Please… mom… don’t die. Please no..” I cried, my bottom lip trembling.
She looked at me, and for a moment, I thought she was going to speak, but the only thing that came out of her mouth was more blood. And then she stopped breathing.
I screamed as Landon grabbed me and pulled me away. The warriors that were once surrounding me were now surrounding my mother, keeping me from seeing her any longer. I couldn’t stop screaming, even when Landon brought me to my room.
I eventually passed out; I’m not sure how long I had been asleep for, but when I woke, I heard voices.
“What have you done?” Landon asked, his voice a harsh whisper.
“I did what was necessary,” a woman said, someone I didn’t recognize. “One day, you’ll thank me for this.”
“You destroyed him… he’s going to be a King. How can he do this without a wolf? Undo it… now!”
“His wolf was dangerous. I did what needed to be done.”
The voices faded, and sleep took me again, almost as though I had no control over it. That conversation was a distant memory 1 often dreamt about, but never really knew what it meant. It was something I couldn’t seem to get out of my head, and no matter how hard I tried, I could never remember more than that. Though I was certain more had happened that night.
Later in life, a wolf shaman had told me that my memories sealed away something important… something that could reveal how my mother truly died.
“Your Majesty…” I heard a soft whispered voice, bringing my mind back to the present moment.
I looked down to see Cecilia; she was wrapping her arms around my waist, her face buried in my chest. She was holding onto me so tightly, I thought her arms must have been tired. I looked around the room; I was in an old study that had been destroyed.
There were chains on the ground, and my wrists were bruised from where they had dug into me. I could only guess what had happened.
I lost control again.
I was sitting on the ground, and Cecilia was practically in my lap. My heart was beating so fast I could barely catch my breath.
She was here… and she was okay.
Well, as okay as she could be under the circumstances.
My eyes found her arm… my chest tightened. I bit her.
“Fuck…” I muttered as I grabbed her arm.
She looked up at me; her eyes were watery.
“I’m okay,” she said, barely able to get the words out.
“What the hell did he do?” I whispered, a small burst of anger bubbling inside of me.
“He was upset… I shouldn’t have-”
“Don’t do that,” I said through my teeth. “Don’t blame yourself for what he had done. This is exactly why…” the words refused to come out of my mouth.
I pressed my lips together, shaking my head.

“Never mind,” I muttered. “You need to rest… You were badly injured.”
She opened her mouth like she wanted to say something else, but then she closed it.
The doorway creaked open, and bandon stood at the entrance. He stared between the two of us, a question in his eyes.
“Your Majesty… are you well again?” He asked his eyes narrowing at me.
I nodded my head once, my voice failing me. Cecilia stood from my lap, brushing off imaginary dirt from her clothes.
“I shall return to the room,” she said. “Now that things have calmed here.”
Without warning, Cecilia had run past Landon and out of the study. Landon stepped further into the room, shutting the door behind him.
“You’ve never lost control that badly before,” Landon said with a deep frown. “What could have caused such a thing?”
“There was a scent,” I said, my voice turning into a growl. “When we found Cecilia… there was a scent. It wasn’t the scent of a rogue… it was something different.”
“I don’t understand what that means…”
“It means the rogues weren’t the only ones there. Someone else was there… and I’m assuming it’s the same person who organized this. The note from Jax, and the kidnapping… this wasn’t the work of rogues, and I’m not going to rest until I know who touched what belongs to me.
