Chapter 318
ppold’s POV
Warren’s voice was a low growl in my head.
“Mate in trouble.”
Years of silence and frustration rolled off him in waves.
“Sire, what is it?” Landon asked, putting his hand on my back to steady me as I trembled in agony
“Get me unchained,” I said through my teeth, my eyes unfocused.
Landon froze for a moment, his eyes searching my face.
“Are you sure?”
“Don’t make me say it again, Landon,” I growled, the room shaking under the vehemence of it.
Landon nodded as he hurried to get the correct key, I noticed briefly that his hands shook as he unlocked the shackles. They clinked to the ground with a thud.
“You’re going after her… aren’t you.”
It wasn’t a question.
“She’s my mate,” I said with certainty.
I’m not sure how I couldn’t feel it before, but there was no doubt what Cecilia was to me. She was my mate; she had to have been the one that I marked that night.
“Mate,” Warren agreed.
“You’re certain?” Landon asked, his brows pinched together.
“I’ve never been more certain about anything in my life,” I told him without hesitation.
“And what about Lady Sophia?”
Sophia’s name immediately made anger surge through me; I hadn’t even had time to process the fact that Sophia was Cecilia’s sister… Alpha William had been her father. This entire time, Cecilia’s family had been under my roof, and I was completely oblivious.
Had Warren known about this?
His silence was answer enough.
“I need to find out how Sophia is faking that mark,” I say, turning to Landon. “Whatever mark she is wearing isn’t mine.”
“But the scent…”
“It’s fake,” I cut him off.
“Sire, I think you should truly think about what you are saying,” Landon said, his brows furrowing even more. “It would take some incredible witch power to fake a mark. How can you be so certain that Cecilia is your mate and not Sophia?”

“Because the moment he realized he loved her, the curse broke,” Maevis said, stepping into the room.
Her arms were folded across her chest and her brows raised as she looked at me.
“You can hear your wolf.”
Again, it wasn’t a question.
“Yes,” I told her, avoiding Landon’s shocked expression.
“When did that happen?” Landon asked.
“Just now,” I answered. “He’s claiming Cecilia. Whether she is my fated mate or not, he has made his choice.”
“She is our fated mate,” Warren huffed, a bite to his words. “You had been stupid. Worshipping another she-wolf while our mate suffered in silence. Taking away the only real connection I’ve ever made.”
I winced at his words, but I couldn’t be mad at him because I knew he was right. I had failed our mate in more ways than I could count. If anything happened to her-I can’t finish the thought.
“I knew right away after meeting her that Sophia was not your mate,” Maevis said, a frown marring her lips. “I’m not sure how she managed to fool you, but-”
“I marked someone a few weeks ago,” I tell her, cutting her off. “I thought it was Cecilia, but when I went to her, my mark wasn’t there. The next day, Sophia showed up with my mark.”
“Your mark is supposed to disappear. That’s part of the curse,” Maevis told me, shaking her head, disappointment clear on her face. “As for Sophia, I’m not sure how she faked your mark, but I promise you, I am going to find out. If there’s witchcraft at play, then we might have an even bigger problem.”
“What should we do in the meantime?” Landon asked. “Right now, Sophia and her family are roaming around the palace as if they own the place.”
I could tell from Landon’s expression and tone that he didn’t like Sophia or her family. He wanted nothing more than to get rid of them and I couldn’t have agreed more.
“Let them,” I said as I turned towards the doorway. “We will deal with them later. Let them think the wedding is still going on, and then we will pull the rug right out from under their feet. I’m going to make them pay for every cruel thing they’ve ever done to Cecilia.”
“Where are you going?” Landon asked, following me.
I didn’t turn around, and I didn’t stop.
“To find my mate.”
“And if she’s dead?” Landon asked, making me pause at the doorway, his words like a stab in the chest.
I let out a deadly growl as I turned to face him, my eyes narrowed as I felt Warren pushing himself to the surface. For once, I wasn’t pushed in the back of my mind; I wasn’t blacking out and losing control… I was standing with him, just as furious, and just as ready.
“She’s not,” I bit out. “I would be able to feel it if she were.”
