Chapter 63
Cecilia’s POV
“Your Majesty?” I gasped as Leopold emerged from the corner of my room, his hands tucked in his pockets. “W…what are you doing in my room?”
“I was looking for you,” he said, a confused look on his face. “But you weren’t here.”
He stepped forward and into the light. His eyes remained og mine, and I felt rooted to the ground, unsure of what to say or do. I wasn’t sure why he would seek me out, but entering my room without me being here wasn’t something Leopold would do. And
then it hit me.
“Warren?”
The corner of his lips tipped up into a smile.
“I come to thank you,” he said, basically answering my question.
I let out a breath, my shoulders relaxing.
“Yeah, of course. I was happy to help.
“You communicate with Leopold for me. Felt good getting through to him finally.”
“We can work on helping you communicate yourself.”
“Only true mate can help,” Warren said, lifting one shoulder. “Where had you gone?”
I stared at him for a moment longer.
“Etiquette lessons,” I say, trying to keep the slight hurt out of my voice. I cleared my throat and tried again because the first attempt had failed. “Landon told me I needed to take these lessons with the others for the Consort Selection Ceremony.”
Warren’s brows lifted.
“You want to be consort?”
I rolled my eyes and folded my arms across my chest.
“Not exactly,” I muttered. “I didn’t really have a choice. But it would have been nice to have a little warning before I was blindsided.”
This time, I truly could not keep the bitterness out of my voice. It wasn’t jealousy, but hurt that my friend would keep something like this from me. At least, I thought we were friends.
“Blindsided? I do not understand,” Warren said as he sat down on my bed, as if he had every right to slide into my bed after
everything.
“You didn’t tell me about this Consort Selection Ceremony,” I tell him. “I had to find out about it from Landon. Isn’t that something you should have told me, as a friend?”
“Not exactly easy topic,” Warren said, his eyes shifting to the ground. “Hoped would find true mate.”
His tone and expression made me pause, and I suddenly felt guilty for jumping down his throat. Though I suppose I could have been worse. I let out a breath as I joined him on the bed, sitting beside him.
“I look for mate for long time,” Warren said softly. “Almost give up hope.”
My heart ached for the pure sadness in his tone.
“Your mate is out there somewhere,” I tell him. “Maybe you’re right, though. Maybe she will be at this ceremony. I mean,

anybody who is anybody will be there, right?”
He nodded.
“Yes. Invited everyone.”
“Maybe she will be there,” I say, and for a moment, I let the silence stretch between us. “You should go. It’s late, and I’m exhausted.”
“I sleep here.”
I raised my brows.
“Probably not a good idea, Warren. Leopold-”
“Won’t mind,” Warren said, stopping my words. “He knows now. He won’t mind.”
He was right about Leopold knowing, so it wouldn’t be weird if he woke up in my bed tomorrow morning. But still, I didn’t think it was a good idea for Warren to sleep in my bed without Leopold’s consent. But before I could voice that out loud, he was already getting comfortable on top of the covers, giving me a lopsided grin that made me want to laugh.
I shook my head and let out a breath.
“Alright, fine,” I concede. “But we really shouldn’t make this a habit.”
Warren smiled and patted the bed beside him.
“Sleep.”
By the time I woke up the next morning, Warren… or rather… Leopold… was gone. I knew that meant he had probably regained control and realized where he was sleeping. He hadn’t left too long ago, though, because his scent still lingered, and it was fresh. The side of the bed that he slept on was still slightly warm as well.
