Silence dropped over the grand hall like a guillotine.
The servants had stopped pretending to work. The guards had stopped pretending to patrol.
This was the conversation the castle had been waiting for since Serena arrived. Every servant, every guard, every maid who had watched the queen treat the Crown Princess like garbage for months was standing in this corridor witnessing the goddamn reckoning, and not one of them was going to miss a single fucking syllable.
Bellatrix’s face did something extraordinary. It cycled through rage, disbelief, homicide, and irritation before returning back to its natural resting bitch state.
"Those are—" she began.
"Those are facts, Bellatrix. Every single one. I have receipts that go back to the week I arrived in this castle, and the receipts are comprehensive, and every person in this hallway heard at least half of them happen because you did them in fucking public."
Elara’s eyes widened. Serena had just said another curse word to the queen.
Serena Frostborne, the woman whose default was quiet composure and whose composure was legendary, had just dropped a cuss word in a public corridor aimed at her mother-in-law, and the dropping was evidence that something fundamental had shifted and the shifting was overdue.
"That is semantics," Bellatrix said, waving a hand.
"Semantics? You told me my mother would be disappointed in me. My mother, who died protecting me. You said that to my face, Bellatrix. To my fucking face. That is beyond semantics, and if you think I am walking into your parlor for tea and fucking pleasantries after the shit you have pulled, you are out of your goddamn mind."
Elara pressed her lips together so hard they disappeared. Serena cursing this much was absolutely intentional and it was hilarious.
"You poisoned me," Serena continued, because the dam was broken and the water was flowing and the flow had months of pressure behind it. "Agnes poisoned me because you gave her access. Agnes drugged my mate because she was the princess you selected. Agnes groped me while you stood in the goddamn room and watched. And when she was done, you walked out with her throwing insults at me, Bellatrix. I stood there in that fitting room with my best friend and a seamstress and I put on a different dress and I went to a gala and I smiled because smiling was the only option you left me."
Her voice cracked on the last word. The crack was fury, raw and structural, the sound of a foundation that had been taking weight for six months and was finally showing the stress.
Elara’s chest hurt. The hurt was real, physical, the specific pain of a woman who had been standing beside her best friend through every single one of these moments and had watched Serena smile through all of them and had known, every goddamn time, that the smile was a shield and the shield was the only thing keeping Serena from breaking in front of people who didn’t deserve to see her break.
"You told everyone I was illiterate and a whore and even went as far as calling me a slut during my pack initiation ceremony," Serena continued. "A Luna saying that to someone during their pack initiation is disgusting. Someone who wanted to join YOUR pack. You weren’t just representing yourself that day, you were representing Drakenfell and doing a piss-poor job at it. I’ve never met a Luna as cruel as you and I hope I never do."
The mural on the wall was the only witness maintaining composure. Maids and guards had filed out of adjacent rooms at this point, all watching.

The looking lasted three seconds. The three seconds contained every weapon Bellatrix wanted to deploy and every weapon the eight-step plan required her to holster. The old Bellatrix would have ended this girl. The old Bellatrix would have produced a response so devastating that Serena would have needed a healer and a therapist and a new name. The old Bellatrix was in a cage. She needed Serena to execute her eight step divorce strategy from The Knotty Omega, so the cage was holding, and the holding was costing Bellatrix every ounce of control she had built in thirty years.
