119 - Ben
I turn slowly, reluctantly away from Elara again. “Yeah. What’s up Emmery?”
“We can calm the wolves for you. Keep them in a lucid sedation state. Would that be alright with you?”
“Yes, of course.” I smile. Another step in the right direction. I’m over learning the hard way. “Anything to keep them still and to keep the more feral ones from hurting themselves. The only absolute instruction I got is to keep them from shedding blood on the land here. We should probably make sure they at least have water. I’m not sure if the Rift has a problem with death in general or if it’s just the rogues bleeding, but we shouldn’t take any chances.” I take a deep breath. “We are going to focus on getting the Alpha and your High Priestess out of this – “ I gesture at the wall of magic – “Can you spread the word about keeping the rogue wolves unharmed?” Copyright ©️ 2025 Miss L Writes and Ember Mantel Productions.
“Of course, Alpha. And don’t worry about Brianna…or Marietta for that matter. They are safe. Only in a space we cannot reach at the moment.”
“What did you call me? And what do you mean space that can’t be reached?”
“I called you ‘Alpha’ sir. You are one of the pack’s leaders. Just because your mate was born an Alpha, and you were born a Beta doesn’t mean you can’t elevate to an Alpha with her. You have been an acting Alpha since our coven arrived, and you are giving instructions now, as an Alpha, are you not?”
“Kind of…”
“We need supplies. I’m not leaving until I have Elara. Can you contact Omegas to get food and water? I’m going to need some clothes to layer if I can’t shift to sleep. We will need wood for fires,” I turn suddenly to the Rift, “Unless that’s not okay with you?” I question. “I don’t know how this whole magic, balance, elements thing works. I don’t want to unknowingly hurt something that's sacred to the Rift because we need to keep warm at night.
“I need a manual for all this magic stuff. And, out of curiosity, am I ever going to get my wolf back? The quiet in my head is a little disturbing, and frankly, inconvenient right now. I need to be able to talk to my pack and I NEED to check on my mate.” I tell the Rift flippantly in my head. Maybe it can’t hear when I speak out loud. Who the f*ck knows. It seems to respond better when I treat it like my wolf.
It’s past midnight when all the supplies arrive. The expanse of the Rift edge is littered with rogue wolves pinned to the ground like computer cables. Unable to move, but completely unharmed. We have groups of pack members and coven members spread out among them, keeping them hydrated and fed…or sedated as needed.
