“They are just children!” Black cloak, Amadeus, yells.
A brunette woman pulls from the hoard towards the two men dueling next to me. Again the little girl perks up and smiles. She has not been afraid the way a typical youngster should be at the battle before her, she almost craves it. Looking at the girl, I see a resemblance to the woman in green. Same long brunette hair, same dark almond shaped eyes. She is waving her arms in a complicated manner. The wind has started to pick up throwing debris and loose clothing around, obscuring everyone’s vision.
“Leave us!” her command is loud over the din.
Green cloak approaches her. “We need to get rid of the lot of them, High Priestess. They attacked us with no provocation! They aim to wipe out or Coven and take your position.” He stammers. It’s not the confident voice he was just using towards Amadeus. She didn’t hear their previous conversation.
“No! I will not take a life.” She says to Green Cloak. “Stand down!” She calls to Amadeus. Before he can respond thick black smoke surrounds everyone and the heat of flames licks through the clearing of the forest. More spells and shouts can be heard as if someone turned up the volume on the already loud battle. The High Priestess’ focus shifts to protecting the people in the direct line of fire.
The Green Cloaked man sneers at Amadeus. “They are gone now, never to return.”
She starts to shake and her hands are lighting up bright gold. A yell near us has me instinctively sliding to her other side to protect her. It’s Green Cloak. I’m not sure where he came from, but this little girl is his destination.”Silas, help please. She’s hurt.” Copyright ©️ 2025 Miss L Writes and Ember Mantel Productions.
He doesn’t move any faster. In fact, I think he slows his crawl to observe her. This child is panicking, worrying for her mother and he doesn’t rush straight to her. I want to throttle him. She’s still glowing, I’m not sure if she’s noticed, and rocking her mother, sobbing words I can’t understand. She’s clearly a witch, but maybe too young to do magic, I’m not sure. When Silas finally gets to her, she reaches for him asking him to help her mother. Silas, holds her, but does nothing more.
“Remember what they did here today, Eliza.” My eyes shoot to her and I stop breathing. “There is no place for Chaos magic in our world. It is too dangerous, it can’t be controlled. Now your mother knows that, but it’s too late for her.”
