The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 118

Chapter 118

Nicole finally finished Cola’s first temperature-regulating outfit. She waved him over.

“Come here.”

She had picked black on purpose. It was easier to keep clean.

The deep freeze was going to be brutal, so she made it a full-body suit. She pulled his tail through a hole she had cut, then added another opening in the back so he could go to the bathroom.

She realized she hadn’t cut enough openings. She grabbed the scissors again and cut another hole. No way she was putting him in diapers.

Cola stood there, unimpressed. Wrapped in the black temperature-regulating outfit, he looked like he had just been dragged out of a coal mine.

Poppy, ever blunt, blurted out, “That’s so ugly.”

The moment she said it, she realized she had messed up. She quickly covered her mouth and looked at Nicole with wide, innocent eyes. “I didn’t mean it.”

Wounded pride kicking in, the dog bared his teeth and started tugging at the outfit.

He signaled for Nicole to get the thing off him. It was ruining his handsome image.

Nicole pulled him close and coaxed, “You’re not ugly. You’re the most handsome dog in the world.”

Trying to make up for it, Poppy added awkwardly, “Yeah, Cola, you’re not ugly. You’re even more handsome than Zeph. Nicole, the clothes you made are really pretty.”

More handsome than his handler?

Cola’s dark eyes flicked toward Nicole. He turned his head and let out a bark, as if to confirm that she wasn’t just saying that to make him feel better.

Nicole ruffled his head. “I’m serious. You’re the best-looking dog on the whole street.”

Only then did Cola perk up, happily burrowing into her arms.

If it looked that good on him, then he wanted another one.

This time, Nicole skipped the black and went with a dark green fabric instead.

As she worked, she kept an eye on his reaction.

Unfortunately, his thick fur made it hard for him to feel any difference in temperature for now, so he didn’t react much to wearing it.

After finishing the second outfit, Nicole used the leftover scraps to make outfits for Ash and Snowy. The patchwork look made it even uglier.

Not like they were entering a beauty contest. As long as it kept them alive, that was enough.

At noon, Zeph came to pick up Poppy.

Nicole stopped him and pulled out the nail gun from her bag. “Almost forgot to return this.”

“It’s yours.”

Nicole blinked, stunned. This was a life-saving weapon, and he was just giving it away?

“I modified it myself. I’ve got another one.”

Nicole only had 200 rounds. Every shot counted. She wouldn’t use it unless it was absolutely necessary. She hadn’t expected him to just hand over something like this.

Still, nothing came for free. “What do you want in exchange? As long as I have it, it’s yours.”

Food, alcohol, cigarettes, medicine. He could pick anything.

“You’ve taught Poppy well. She’s already learned a lot of words.”

They were just trading lessons, which was only fair. Besides, Cola had made even bigger gains. The dog’s rapidly building strength and muscle gave her a real sense of security.

Nicole told him to think it over. This was a one-time offer.

“Poppy wants ravioli, but I don’t know how to make them.”

That was it? Nicole was caught off guard.

“Yeah, Nicole! I want ravioli,” Poppy said, looking up at her with big, pleading eyes.

He gave Nicole a nail gun, so she decided she would teach him how to make ravioli.

The only problem was that kneading and rolling dough took time, and she couldn’t take out the pasta sheets she had stored.

Still, even if Zeph wasn’t much of a cook, he was great at heavy work.

So, ravioli it was.

They moved to Zeph’s apartment. Nicole rolled up her sleeves.
