The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 190

Chapter 190

Before Nicole and Zeph realized it, they had spent five hours inside the storage space. Outside, it was probably around 6 p.m.

In this kind of deep freeze, 6 p.m. meant full darkness.

Zeph got dressed, holding up the swim trunks with a hint of awkwardness. “I’ll wash these and return them?”

Nicole’s toes curled in embarrassment. “They look good on you. Just keep them.”

The man had broad shoulders, narrow waist, and long legs for days.

The words were out before she could stop them. By the time she tried to cover her mouth, it was too late.

For once, Zeph actually flushed. 1

Then, as if he had to return the favor, he said, “Thanks. You looked good in what you were wearing, too.”

Both of them fell silent.

Yeah. They were both bad at this. No one had the high ground here.

Nicole chambered a round and stepped out of the storage space.

The room was pitch black and dead quiet. She stood still for a moment, listening. After making sure no one was around, she switched on her flashlight, keeping the beam low.

The hallway door was open. The whole building was silent, though faint lights glowed in other buildings nearby.

There was no telling when law enforcement would pull out. Sitting around wasn’t an option, so the two of them moved quietly downstairs.

The main entrance was blocked off with caution tape, and soldiers were stationed at the door.

They went back up to the second floor and slipped into a unit. Then, they opened a window and used a rope to descend under the cover of darkness.

There were a lot of people deployed today. Nearby, they saw survivors lined up with their hands on their heads, being escorted out of the complex and onto trucks.

Some resisted.

“I get half full here! If I go with you, will I even eat?” someone shouted.

An older woman clung to a tree, refusing to move, her voice rising. “I didn’t break any laws! Why are you arresting me?”

An officer snapped, clearly fed up. “Didn’t break any laws? Do you know how many people died because

And that shooting… It was clean and precise.

“Any results on the headshot rounds?”

“The forensics team confirmed it. The bullets came from our internal system, but not from Westbridge.”

The man’s frown deepened.

That didn’t add up.

Could it be a long-term undercover agent? But now that the whole operation had been taken down, why stay hidden?

“Keep interrogating them. And monitor the rescued survivors.”

“Got it, Mr. Anderson.”

The assistant jotted it down, then asked, “The police department wants to know how we want to handle the suspects.”

The man went quiet for a long moment, then let out a heavy breath. “Since the disaster began, crime’s only gotten worse. We’ve lost too many people.

“I recommend a full crackdown. We have to shut this down hard.

“Anyone who’s killed should get the death penalty. No exceptions. The rest go to prison, then assigned to labor out west. Observe them for six months observation. If they show real change, they’ll be released.

“Get the public involved. Report any member of the Guild still on the run. We bring every last one of them back to face justice.”

The scale of this operation was bigger than expected. Forget getting any rest tonight; at this rate, they wouldn’t be resting anytime soon.

He walked off, issuing orders over the radio.

Hidden in the dark, Nicole caught every word.

Two tip-off letters.

Her mind immediately went to Zeph.

Who else knew this much about the organization?

She wasn’t stupid enough to ask, though. In this kind of apocalypse, curiosity got people killed. It was better to leave some things buried.

She had her suspicions, but she kept them to herself.

Once the area cleared, Zeph climbed up the podium and hauled Nicole up with a rope. They had barely started moving when a beam of light snapped toward them.

“Who’s there?”

Zeph grabbed her hand and ran.

“Stop! Stop now, or we shoot!”
