The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 238

Chapter 238

Nicole shrugged. “You’re my teammate. And during the typhoon, you saved me first. Wasn’t it only right for me to save you back?”

Zeph kept pushing. “What if some random stranger had discovered your secret instead? Would you still have shown mercy?”

The question left Nicole speechless again.

Whether it was bringing him into her storage space or sparing his life afterward, both choices ultimately came down to one thing: she trusted his character.

But people were far too complicated to understand completely. Saving him while still staying wary of him didn’t actually contradict each other.

At the same time, she couldn’t deny it. If it had been anyone else, she would’ve killed them without hesitation long ago.

The fact that she felt conflicted at all was exactly why she stayed guarded around him. It felt like she was tied down by hesitation.

“Nicole, there’s no need to turn me down right away.” Zeph’s tone remained steady. “Take some time and think about it carefully. If you still don’t feel anything for me afterward, I’ll accept your answer.”

He had his own stubborn principles. “Don’t worry. Once you’ve made up your mind, I won’t keep

bothering you.”

At this point, he had already spoken sincerely enough that pushing back too harshly would honestly just

feel cruel.

Nicole’s thoughts stayed muddled all the way home. She even forgot to take the potatoes with her.

The moment she got back, she crawled straight under the blankets and spent the entire night tossing and turning in irritation.

Did she actually have feelings for Zeph? Where exactly did he get all that confidence from? 1

Nicole thought about it over and over, but the more she thought, the more unsettled she felt.

If she called him a friend, then clearly, he wasn’t the same kind of friend as Jeremy or Hughie.

What she felt toward Zeph was more like absolute trust in a comrade, the kind of person you could trust with your back in a fight.

But then she remembered the time they dealt with the Drakebane Guild.

Twice, he had instinctively pulled her behind him. And when they had gotten cornered in that high-rise building, even with death right in front of them, his first instinct had been to make sure she escaped first.

Not to mention the brick that he had blocked for her.

Everyone simply ate, chatted, and carried on naturally. Poppy occasionally talked to Nicole, keeping the atmosphere surprisingly comfortable.

Afterward, Nicole wasn’t even allowed to do the dishes. The little girl enthusiastically took over both wiping the table and cleaning up.

Meanwhile, Cola sat beside the sink, supervising like a tiny foreman, silently directing Poppy’s dishwashing efforts.

Later, Nicole carried the potatoes downstairs to the 17th floor, where it happened to be Derek and

Victor’s day off.

The Goodmans had harvested their potatoes, too.
