The rooftop was empty, and the second floor was already more than halfway underwater.

As Nicole left, she glanced at the Hummer she’d had her eye on in the parking deck.

It was the same model as the one owned by Zeph. It had high clearance, insane torque, and aggressive lines. In an apocalypse, it was a real war machine, something that could smash an ordinary SUV aside without slowing down.

Too bad her storage space couldn’t take it. Compared to that, she chose the RV instead. It was more comfortable and versatile.

She patted the hood, the feeling like cutting flesh from her own body. Before long, all these cars/would be submerged and swept away by the flood.

What a waste!

The water level was rising fast, the current growing stronger. Inflatable rafts could easily get carried off.

Nicole switched to the assault boat. There were plenty of submerged obstacles below, so she didn’t dare push the speed.

The city was swallowed by darkness. The waterproof headlamp had a limited range, forcing her to move slowly through the water.

The assault boat was easy to operate, but the engine was loud enough to draw attention.

Fortunately, the typhoon had just eased, and rescue teams were active. Anyone nearby would likely assume it was a fire department patrol.

Nicole didn’t head back to her apartment. She raced the clock toward another destination. About two miles away, the assault boat crawled through the dark, taking nearly half an hour.

A six-story electronics commercial building came into view. Floodwater had already reached the third floor.

Nicole smashed a fourth-floor window with a breaker and climbed inside, heading straight for a solar energy company’s retail showroom.

She remembered the place from a promotional flyer she had picked up before the typhoon. She had even visited to check out their latest solar generator.

It was a high-efficiency solar setup built for off-grid use, paired with a smart inverter that could charge from either sunlight or the grid. Most importantly, it came with a battery system rated at 100 kilowatt-hours.

A full 100 kWh. Enough to run multiple air conditioners or heaters at the same time, even through the night. Naturally, the price matched the specs. It cost 136 thousand dollars.

She couldn’t afford it back then, but she had memorized the location.

Compared to this, every other generator on the market was junk.

After confirming the building was empty, she pulled out a crowbar and went to work on the rolling shutter.

The storefront wasn’t large. Once inside, she went straight to the flagship model displayed on the center stage.

The demo unit only had the battery box and inverter. She pried open the back storage room and found a second unit of the same mode

Nicole didn’t hesitate. Both went into storage.

The solar panels and mounting frames took up a ton of space. With her storage nearly full, she stacked them on the balcony section.

Afraid the extra components might get damaged, she took every spare piece she could find.

Seeing there was still room left, she grabbed several mobile battery packs as well. Their capacity was much smaller, but direct charging alone made them worth it.

The mall had plenty of expensive appliances, but her storage space was completely maxed out.

It was already past 5 a.m. She needed to get back before daylight.

The current was even stronger now. Nicole piloted the assault boat against the wind and rain.

As she neared Crownview Residences, she cut the engine and paddled into calmer water, switching back to the

inflatable raft.
