Chapter 313
As thanks for the cigarettes, Ronnie made sure to warn them.
“Don’t buy stock from the little street stalls. A lot of coarse sea salt is mixed with sand, and the dried seafood isn’t exactly fresh.”
A few families in the villa district ran businesses. When they first arrived, they had been cheated more than once. Only later did they learn how things worked.
After chatting about a little of everything, Nicole saw that Zeph had no objections and decided to rent the
villa.
She chose the one at the top of the mountain. It sat far from the other residents, which made it harder for anyone to notice what they were doing.
When Ronnie learned they wanted the hilltop place, he looked surprised, but he didn’t say much. “Alright. I’ll need you to come down with us and handle the paperwork.”
While Zeph checked the wound on Poppy’s forehead, Nicole took several large sacks of potatoes out of her storage space and unloaded them into the back of the car.
When Poppy got in, a flicker of surprise crossed her eyes. Even so, she seemed used to it by now and didn’t ask a thing.
Back at the security booth, they had to register their IDs. The guards also took photos of all three of them. They said it was so every guard could recognize their faces and keep random people from slipping in and bothering the tenants.
They were also given entry passes. For all the chaos outside, this place handled things pretty professionally.
The guards had seen plenty of wealthy people, so they weren’t shocked when Nicole took out regular potatoes. They weighed everything with practiced ease and collected 450 pounds.
Ronnie stayed helpful to the end. He told them roughly where to buy furniture and said they could ask security for help if they needed anything.
After finishing the paperwork, Nicole drove back up to the hilltop.
The first thing she did wasn’t clean the rooms. She turned on the air conditioner.
She was about to melt.
Only… The air conditioner didn’t work.
Seriously?
Nicole didn’t want the villa’s old furniture, anyway. She shut the doors and kept pulling things out of her
storage space.

She might not have endless amounts of everything, but she had no shortage of furniture and appliances.
For safety and the view, the two of them chose to live on the second floor and planned to set up three
rooms.
The solar generators could finally come out in the open.
Air conditioners, a refrigerator, a humidifier, a washing machine, a dishwasher, beds, couches, tables,
clothes, blankets…
That was the upside of living around rich people. Everyone had supplies. Nicole didn’t have to hide quite
so much.
Nicole packed an entire room full, then moved the items out one by one.
The air conditioners still had to be installed, so for now, Nicole used ice and a cooling fan to bring the temperature down.
Poppy didn’t sit around either. After icing her forehead, she started sweeping and mopping. The little girl worked with surprising enthusiasm.
Cola wanted to help as well, but Nicole found him in the way.
“Cola, your job is to guard the house. Don’t let bad people break in. If bad people get inside, that means you failed. And if you fail, I’m cutting your dog food.”
Cola accepted the mission and immediately went to the balcony to stand guard.
Zeph did the heavy work, while Nicole helped where she could. It took them two hours to install three air
conditioners.
As for the old ones, they tossed them all into another room for the time being.
They hooked the new units up to the battery pack first.
The moment cold air spilled from the brand-new air conditioners, Nicole almost felt human again.
After eating lunch in the cool air, they kept working.
It took another two hours to set up the three rooms and clean the living room, kitchen, and bathrooms.
By evening, Nicole took out the electric fencing she had traded from Weasel, then worked with Zeph to surround the villa’s yard with it.
