The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 316

Chapter 316

“Zeph. Even if you don’t follow the same road you did before, I believe that you’ll still find your own way to help. And because of that, more people may live,” Nicole went on seriously. “You’re human, not God. You can’t shoulder an entire apocalypse by yourself, so stop trying to make it your burden.”

She took his hand and locked her fingers tightly through his.

“And I think you’ve done enough. More than enough. You’ve already given everything you could to this country and its people. Now, you need to live well. For yourself. For your family. For the people who love you, and the people you love.”

Zeph tightened his grip around her hand. The moonlight covered the redness at the corners of his eyes.

“Nicole, thank you.”

There was nothing to thank her for.

The truth was, Nicole felt the same way.

If she had never met Zeph, maybe she would have turned even harder around the edges. But because of him, she had learned to be steadier.

At night, the beach was packed with people. It looked lively, but danger hid everywhere beneath the noise.

Nicole and the others didn’t stay long. They drove their battered car back to the villa.

Even after returning, they didn’t rest. They left the job of guarding the house to Poppy and Cola, while Nicole and Zeph went up to the rooftop and installed the solar panels through the night. 1

They planned to visit the pier before dawn and check out the seafood coming off the boats. After that, they could decide how much to stockpile.

Zeph picked things up fast. He read the manual while installing the system. After several hours of work, they finally got the solar power setup running before morning.

After her shower, Nicole lay in a high-end villa on a soft bed that had once cost six figures, and it still

didn’t feel real.

This was clearly a disaster apocalypse, yet somehow, their days seemed to be getting better.

Whatever. She might as well enjoy it. Who knew how long anyone could survive? Every day had to count.

At 2 a.m., the alarm rang right on time.

Nicole was still heavy with sleep, but Cola pawed her awake.

The dog was too smart for his own good. The moment he heard the alarm, he knew his humans were about to do something important, and he immediately started urging them to get moving.

Since they didn’t know this place well, Nicole put the important items into her storage space and brought

the two little ones into the car.

The pier was in another direction, only a few miles from the beach.

By the time they arrived, the pier was already busy. Several fishing boats had docked and were unloading

their catch.

A lot of vendors were waiting to pick through the goods. Some drove small trucks, and others rode cargo trikes. Without exception, they were all from around Grayport.

People from farther away didn’t dare come. They were afraid the seafood would spoil before they could sell it.

There weren’t only vendors, either. Some neighborhood buying groups had come, too. Everyone was scrambling for a way to make a living.

At the same time, Nicole noticed several water tankers lined up in the distance, filling up before transporting the water elsewhere to sell.

The seafood that had just come off the boats was extremely fresh. Some of it was still alive and thrashing.

There were all kinds of fish, shrimp, crabs, squid, shellfish, and sea vegetables. The variety was dizzying, far more than anyone could count at a glance.
