Chapter 357
Someone walked over.
It was the same man who had been leading the group in the van that day. He recognized Zeph, something flickering across his face before he smiled.
“Well, look who finally showed up. I thought you were tough. Didn’t expect you to fold this fast.”
Zeph didn’t react to the jab. His tone stayed even. “We gave it some thought. We’d like to join your welcoming community.”
The man choked on that, his smile turning stiff. “That’s more like it. No need to be stubborn. Wait here. I’ll go check with the boss.”
As he turned, a sneer pulled at his mouth. Under his breath, he muttered, “So much for the 18th floor. Just a bunch of cowards.”
Unfortunately for him, Nicole heard every word.
Good. So he was the one behind last night.
A show of force at the door was expected. Zeph waited a full hour before the bald man finally came back.
“The boss wants to see you, but we’ve got rules. No weapons inside. Step out for inspection.”
The four of them got out, and the Hummer was searched roughly.
The man gave his underlings a look.
One of them stepped forward. “We need to check you, too.”
In this heat, even short sleeves felt like too much. There was nowhere to hide anything. This was clearly
harassment.
The tattooed man walked toward Nicole, his eyes lingering where they shouldn’t. “I’ll handle you.”
As he spoke, his hand reached for her chest.
Nicole’s gaze went cold, and she drove a hard kick into his most vulnerable spot. He didn’t even get a chance to cry out before she locked onto his throat with precision.
The others rushed in, weapons raised and aimed at her.
“You’ve got some nerve, acting like this on our turf!”
“Please. At least know who you’re dealing with.” Nicole didn’t flinch as she looked them over. “Your boss invited us. Do you even know why he wants us? You’re showing off in front of the wrong people. Figure out if you’re disrespecting us or making your boss look bad.”
“Watch your mouth! You’ve got some nerve, killing two of our teams and still acting like this,” the man snapped. ” You think we’re soft? Don’t push it.”
Zeph spoke up. “We can leave. You’re welcome to try and stop us.”
The tension snapped tight, and Cola bared his teeth, ready to move.
“John.”

A deep voice cut through the standoff.
A middle-aged man walked over.
“The boss told you to bring our guests in. Why are they still out here?”
The man looked annoyed, but had no choice but to back off. “Right away.”
The standoff broke.
