The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 509

Chapter 509

Marcus was about to leave when the group in the yard called after him.

“Marcus, come back and hang out with us.”

“No, you guys have fun.”

With a cigarette between his lips, Marcus strolled away without looking back.

The party had mostly been thrown to impress him, but he clearly had no interest in staying. After what happened with Camila, the other wealthy guests quickly lost whatever enthusiasm they had left.

Who exactly lived in Villa 50? Even Marcus seemed to be treating them with a certain amount of respect.

Back home, Nicole sat quietly, lost in thought. Camila’s face kept flashing through her mind, leaving her inexplicably uneasy.

Zeph set a cup of coffee in front of her. “Worried Marcus is going to cause trouble?”

Nicole shook her head. The cars were safely hidden in her storage space. As long as she never took them out, no one would ever know.

“Is it the woman with the alpaca?”

Nicole shook her head again but said nothing.

Zeph sat down beside her. “We’re not going to go looking for trouble, but if trouble comes looking for us, we won’t back down.”

Nicole leaned against his shoulder and closed her eyes.

Her hands were cold, so Zeph took them between his own and gently warmed them.

Zeph had a pretty good idea what was bothering her, but since she didn’t want to talk about it, he wasn’t going to push.

News traveled fast. Before long, Sven contacted her over the radio.

“Nicole, are you okay?”

Nicole closed the curtains and took a nap. By the time she woke up, it felt as though nothing had happened.

Her mood had returned to normal. “Thanks for checking on me, Sven. I’m fine.”

What happened today had undoubtedly angered the wealthy residents all over again. From now on, the hostility between them would only become more obvious.

Nicole never went into a fight without knowing what she was up against. “Do you know anything about the family with the alpaca?”

Even with all his trading connections, Sven didn’t know every resident in the neighborhood. Still, a family that kept an alpaca was hard to forget.

“They’re the Clarks. They made their money selling home appliances. Remember the fresh water and ice during the extreme heat? The Clarks bought it so they could throw their daughter an 18th-birthday pool party.”

A pool party?

Of course, Nicole remembered. If she hadn’t needed to expand her storage space, she never would’ve agreed to that deal.

Apparently, the Clarks still had considerable resources.

“They’re barely hanging on,” Sven said.

He was good at reading people and saw no reason to hide anything from Nicole.

“The family’s been going downhill since the apocalypse started. They spent all that money on the pool party during the extreme heat just to keep up appearances. They wanted to show off their daughter, Camila, and make her seem like a good match for a powerful family.”

They were trying to marry Camila into a powerful family?

Nicole immediately pictured the coy, flirtatious way Camila had acted around Marcus.

Marcus was certainly a good catch.

Apparently, Camila hadn’t managed to win him over.

Nicole considered asking more about the Clarks, but ultimately decided against it.

For the next few days, she stayed home.
