The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 552

Chapter 552

Sven didn’t know exactly who had gotten the news out, but he knew the agricultural research institute raised fingerlings, and people with the right connections could get their hands on some.

He traded supplies for this one, and it had probably passed through several people before reaching him. It definitely didn’t come cheap.

There were still some soybean fritters left from the day before, so Nicole decided to serve them with the fish and

make a fish stew.

Poppy worked diligently, with Brandon helping beside her.

When Nicole wasn’t looking, he slipped a handful of chocolate-covered cereal bites into Poppy’s pocket.

Snacks were so rare and valuable that Poppy immediately tried to give them back.

“I saved these just for you. We still have more at home.”

As he spoke, he unwrapped one and popped it into her mouth. “Is it good?”

“Mm-hmm.” Poppy smiled at him. “Brandon, you’re so nice.”

Her praise made Brandon beam. He leaned closer and whispered, “I only gave the other kids one each.”

Poppy was delighted to know he had saved more for her. “I’ll teach you how to fight after lunch.”

“Okay!”

Brandon crouched beside her and helped sort through the vegetables. When she got up to wash them, he quickly said, “Poppy, the water’s freezing. I’ll do it.”

Lunch consisted of soybean fritters, fish stew, and pickled greens.

Nicole had made the pickled greens herself using vegetables grown in the fertile soil inside her storage space. She had put away two large jars, all homemade and prepared under perfectly sanitary conditions.

Neither Sven nor Brandon could cook, so they were thrilled as they drank the rich, creamy fish broth.

“Dad, the fish stew Poppy made is really good!”

Sven immediately corrected him. “Nicole made it.”

“Poppy helped cook the fish, and I chopped the vegetables.”

“Really? You know how to chop vegetables now? That’s my boy!”

As they ate and talked, Sven noticed how healthy Nicole’s skin looked and said, “Some of the wealthy women have been asking for skin care products. Do you have any way of getting some?”

As it happened, she did. She had quite a stockpile in her storage space.

“What brands are they looking for?” she asked.

“Doesn’t matter. As long as it smells good and hasn’t expired.”

Sven knew next to nothing about skin care, but it had been four years since the apocalypse. Finding anything still usable was practically a miracle.

The wealthy women might complain and act disgusted, but their standards had steadily fallen.

A few months earlier, he had sold a bottle of cheap drugstore lotion. At first, every woman there had acted as though it was garbage. By the end, they nearly ripped each other’s hair out fighting over it.

As long as he had something to sell, he could charge a fortune for it.

“I have a few bottles. I’ll show them to you later,” Nicole said.

She had cleared out a large supply from the supermarket back then and picked up another batch from the office building. There was enough to last her and Poppy several lifetimes. If she didn’t sell it now, it would only become harder to unload later.

“Can you get any condoms?” Sven continued. “They’re one of the hardest things to find, and everyone wants them

During the first two years, plenty of wealthy men had abandoned all restraint and indulged in every vice they could think of. It wasn’t long before quite a few of them contracted sexually transmitted diseases.

Before the apocalypse, treatment would have been easy to find.

Now, even basic medication was nearly impossible to get.

They learned their lesson soon enough, but by then it was too late to stock up. Condoms had become almost impossible to find, no matter how much someone was willing to pay.

“Ahem…”

Zeph was still too easily embarrassed. He didn’t expect Sven to bring up condoms at the dinner table, and he nearly choked on a fish bone.

Sven glanced at Zeph’s flushed face, amused by how easily embarrassed he was. Nicole, on the other hand, didn’t seem bothered at all.
