The Apocalyptic Queen's Werewolf Journey (Thora and Darius) novel Chapter 146

**Chapter 146: The Alpha Acts Up**

It was an unusual sight to behold: Darius, the ever-charismatic Alpha, adorned with an expression so serious that it made Thora’s heart race with uncertainty. She wasn’t accustomed to this side of him, and instinctively, her gaze darted away, avoiding the intensity of his eyes that seemed to bore into her soul.

Noticing the discomfort radiating from her, Darius deftly shifted the conversation. “You awakened your wolf, didn’t you?” His voice was steady, yet there was an underlying curiosity that hinted at his deeper thoughts. He had sensed the surge of her wolf power when she had fought off those assassins earlier, a display of strength that was hard to ignore.

“Yeah,” Thora replied, her tone casual yet laced with an undertone of acknowledgment. There was no sense in denying such a significant development; it was a part of her now.

Without warning, Darius leaned closer and inhaled deeply, his nostrils flaring as he sought to catch her scent. Thora’s instincts kicked in, and she instinctively recoiled, her heart pounding. “What are you doing?” she asked, her voice edged with alarm.

“I’m just curious,” he replied, the seriousness of his demeanor unwavering. “Anyone who’s awakened their wolf spirit should have a stabilized pheromone signature by now. So why can’t I smell yours?” His words hung in the air, heavy with implications. He was also silently hoping to determine whether she was indeed his fated mate.

In her mind, Amie, Thora’s wolf spirit, chimed in with a hint of smugness, “Obviously because I can hide it.” Amie lazily flicked her tail, reveling in the secret they shared.

For werewolves, the essence of their power and spirit was held within their soulstone, a mystical gem that resonated with their true nature. Once awakened, their pheromones and spiritual pressure would seep out effortlessly, much like the rhythm of their breath. It was a clear sign of dominance and strength.

But Thora was different. She had been reborn, and while her soul and wolf spirit were authentically hers, her body and soulstone belonged to the original Thora. This peculiar mismatch meant that her pheromones and spiritual pressure only manifested when she actively tapped into her wolf power.

As long as she remained cautious and refrained from using it, she could easily pass as an unawakened werewolf, making her life significantly simpler.

Of course, she wasn’t about to delve into such complexities with Darius. “It’s just awakened—it’s not stable yet,” she said, her tone light and dismissive.

Darius raised an eyebrow, skepticism etched across his features.

She certainly hadn’t appeared unstable when she had been effortlessly dispatching those assassins with her pinpoint wolf power.

“Looks like I’ll have to wait a bit longer to meet her wolf,” Darius mused, sending a thought through their mind-link to Lorcan. “She’s clearly on guard with us.”

Lorcan’s voice came through, tinged with disappointment. “I don’t know what Thora’s doing, but I can’t sense her wolf at all. And if she truly is our fated mate, shouldn’t she be responding to our pheromones? She seems so indifferent.”

“Buddy, she’s only sixteen. Werewolves can’t recognize their fated mates until they’ve reached maturity,” Darius reminded him, a hint of patience in his tone.

“Right,” Lorcan sighed, his shoulders slumping in resignation. “Two more years. That’s going to feel like an eternity.”

“Look on the bright side; she’s already our mate by law, isn’t she? As for confirming that we’re fated, that’s just a matter of time,” Darius replied, optimism threading through his words.

Suddenly, Lorcan perked up, a spark of enthusiasm igniting in him. “You’re right!”
