Chapter 171 The Gamble
Dorian’s grip on his wine glass tightened. “Commander Green, you seem very sure of yourself.
“Right now the Ciphers have a new leader taking charge. To gain real loyalty, you need solid alliances. The major powers are already tied to the old arms dealers. Astralis may not be a superpower, but it has strong potential. For you, it’s the best new partner.”
Thora had researched Dorian well.
Even though no one doubted his strength and everyone feared his methods, a leader still needed real achievements to win the full loyalty of his people.
“So Commander Green really did come prepared.” Dorian took a sip of wine.
“As for cooperating with Astralis, I can consider it. But giving up partnerships with other factions… that is excessive.” His voice cooled.
Thora relaxed her posture, her tone suddenly rough with a hint of street swagger. “The list I gave you is just so you know who those groups are. Even if you refuse, I can make sure every name on that list loses the ability to do business.”
How brutal.
Dorian now suspected that if he refused her offer, she might just slam his head on the table and force him at gunpoint.
But one thing confused him. Astralis Imperial’s military was known for being righteous and proper. When did they start sending someone this reckless to negotiate?
“So since you disagree with the second item, we’ll skip straight to the first.” Thora said, completely unaware of how aggressive she sounded.
“I still need time to consider.”
Dorian didn’t dislike the idea of working with Astralis. He simply disliked being pushed into it.
“I have many options. Not just Astralis. And not only the factions on your list.”
Thora’s expression turned cold.
Harvey and Tristan stepped forward instinctively.
The armed men around the room immediately raised their guard, gripping their guns tighter.
The atmosphere snapped tight like a wire ready to break.

Dorian stayed relaxed, swirling his wine as if this tension was nothing new.
No one spoke. The silence grew heavy and strange.
Thora preferred violent solutions, but waiting for prey to step into the trap was also something she did well.
Still, Dorian was harder to handle than she had expected. She had prepared, but he wasn’t someone easy to push.
He was patient. He was strategic.
Anyone who could turn an entire casino into a slaughterhouse for factions to tear each other apart was not a simple man.
After a long stretch, Dorian finally spoke. “I can give you a chance. You demonstrated impressive gambling skills earlier. Why don’t we make a bet?”
“Okay.” Thora answered instantly.
Dorian’s eyelashes twitched. His eyes held something new.
Before, it had been a curiosity. Interest. Now it was admiration.
That level of decisiveness was something even the Lycan King of the Empire might not show.
Dorian set his wine down and tilted his head slightly.
The three ability users standing behind him stepped forward at once, their bodies surrounded by the barely visible aura that only ability users could sense.
Dorian’s lips curved coldly. “You should have noticed. These three are ability users too.”
The word “too” made it clear he had already seen through her from the start.
Harvey and Tristan stiffened.
Thora had told them about ability users before. At first they were doubtful, until the recent missions where they witnessed Thora’s powers and saw others with special abilities. Only then did they fully accept it.
