**Shadows Hearts by Joseph King**
**Chapter 18: I Can Get Home By Myself**
**Thora’s POV:**
The name of the man who had come to my rescue echoed in my mind—Darius Blackwood. Yet, despite my attempts to sift through the memories of the original Thora, I found myself at a loss. Who was he? The name held no significance, no recollection of shared moments or encounters.
However, the way Caleb and the others regarded him spoke volumes. Their demeanor shifted when he entered the room, a palpable respect mixed with a hint of fear. The men who surrounded Darius exuded a powerful aura, a silent promise of strength and authority. It was evident that he was no mere mortal; he was a force to be reckoned with.
But in my current predicament, the last thing I desired was to entangle myself with someone of his stature. The complications that could arise from such a relationship were daunting. I had enough chaos in my life already, and I wasn’t keen on adding more.
As I made my way back to Class F, I cast a quick glance at Luke. He was completely absorbed in his coding, fingers dancing over the keyboard with a finesse that I envied. My grasp of this world was still painfully shallow. Even with the memories from the original Thora, I felt like I was only skimming the surface of a vast ocean of knowledge.
If I wanted to establish a foothold in this new life and grow stronger, I needed to immerse myself in the intricacies of this world. I craved information, intelligence that could help me navigate the challenges ahead. And Luke, with his coding prowess, was my best chance at acquiring that knowledge.
Just then, the class bell rang, jolting me from my thoughts and signaling the end of our lesson. Unlike many of my classmates, who were busy chatting and slacking off, I focused intently on the teacher’s words as he delved into the complex divisions of power among the various werewolf empires and the intricacies of wolf power.
To truly grasp the dynamics of this world, I knew I had to absorb every scrap of information offered in these foundational classes.
When the final bell chimed, marking the conclusion of my first day in this strange new world, I stepped outside the gates, my heart racing with anticipation. My eyes were immediately drawn to a flashy car parked in a VIP spot, standing out like a jewel among a sea of expensive vehicles.
A group of students lingered nearby, their hushed whispers and curious glances directed at the car, but none dared to approach. It wasn’t the car that held their attention, though; it was the man leaning casually against it.
Darius. He exuded an effortless charm, a cigarette dangling from his fingers as he exhaled a plume of smoke that curled around his enigmatic features. The moment his gaze landed on me, he straightened up, extinguished his cigarette, and began striding toward me with purpose.
I instinctively averted my eyes, scanning the area for Felix. If I could catch a ride with him, that would be ideal. If not, I could always run home, which would at least provide some much-needed exercise.
Darius had mentioned picking me up, but I never consented to that arrangement. Besides, I had no idea what his true intentions were.
Suddenly, a shadow loomed over me, and I looked up to find Darius’s striking features mere inches away.
“Are you looking for me?” he asked, his tone teasing yet commanding.
I quickly looked away, my heart racing. “No.”
With Felix nowhere in sight, I tightened my grip on my backpack, mentally preparing myself to dash home.
