**Shadows Hearts by Joseph King**
**Chapter 20: Didn’t I Already Tell You My Name?**
**Thora’s POV:**
As the sprawling territory of the Silverleaf Pack came into view, a sense of relief washed over me, and I exhaled a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding.
Darius hadn’t deceived me; he had genuinely brought me back to my home.
The car came to a halt at the entrance of Silverleaf Pack’s territory, where a guard stepped forward, his posture rigid and authoritative, signaling us to stop.
“This is the core territory of the Silverleaf Pack. Only vehicles with proper clearance are permitted to enter,” he stated, his voice firm.
The driver responded promptly, rolling down the window and presenting a solid black card.
The guard’s eyes widened in surprise as he took the card with both hands, inspecting it as if it were a rare artifact. After a moment of reverence, he returned it with a respectful nod, executing a formal pack salute. “My apologies, sir. You may proceed.”
With that, the driver tucked the card away, and we glided through the entrance without any complications.
Yet, despite the smooth passage, a frown creased my brow.
The Astralis Empire had a tiered system of access cards: red cards for military clearance, silver cards for high-ranking parliament officials, and then there was the black card, which held a power that eclipsed both. Possessing a black card meant the bearer had the authority to enter any pack’s territory across the vast expanse of the Astralis Empire. Presenting it was tantamount to wielding the highest command—no one could deny entry.
I turned my gaze toward the young man seated beside me, the realization dawning that his status was far more significant than I had previously imagined.
“Who are you, really?” I found myself asking yet again, curiosity bubbling to the surface.
He flashed me a playful grin. “Didn’t I already tell you my name?”
His eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief as he turned to face me fully. “I believe if you truly wish to know, you’ll find a way to uncover it.”
His enigmatic response left me pondering, and I decided not to push the matter any further.
The car came to a stop in front of Green Villa, and I offered Darius a grateful nod before unbuckling my seatbelt and stepping out into the familiar surroundings.
Just as I was about to cross the threshold of my home, I heard my name being called from behind. “Thora.”
I halted and turned, surprised to see Darius had exited the car as well, his expression unreadable.
I met his gaze, anticipation hanging thick in the air as I waited for him to continue.
A smile broke across his face. “I just wanted to let you in on something.”
“What is it?” My curiosity piqued, I leaned in slightly.
“I’ve agreed, and my parents have come around too. The elders of our pack… they listen to me.” His words hung in the air, devoid of context.
What on earth could that possibly mean?
A frown tugged at my lips as I recalled the sharp words I had directed at Caleb earlier, and a ridiculous suspicion began to form in my mind…
I sought clarification. “Agreed to what, exactly?”
Darius’s gaze swept over me, thoughtful and deliberate. “They’ve consented to allow you to break off your engagement to the heir of the Argenvale Pack. My parents even see you as a potential daughter-in-law. Sure, you’re not of age yet, but I can wait.”
