“Fun! This has got to be one of the academy’s tests!” Ashley laughed as she ran, easily dodging another shot.

Seeing what the bombers behind them were launching, Thora frowned.

“Those aren’t bullets. They’re poisoned tranquilizer darts. They won’t kill you, but they come with side effects.” A man’s voice suddenly sounded beside her. He didn’t even look at Thora, as if he were just talking to himself.

Thora instinctively glanced sideways and only caught sight of his sharp, clean jaw.

Ever since witnessing his ability, she’d tagged him as dangerous.

That unknown power made her wonder if she could drop dead any second.

For now, though, he didn’t seem to pose an immediate threat.

“So this is the academy’s setup,” Thora concluded.

Ashley had guessed right. It was part of the test.

“But how did they know we took a shortcut?” Luke asked while running.

In the forest, all four sprinted full speed.

Behind them, a swarm of bombers pursued like a locust cloud, buzzing endlessly.

The sound alone made one’s scalp tingle.

“It’s the wristbands!” Ashley shouted, yanking hers off and tossing it to the ground.

At almost the same moment, Thora and Number 79 removed theirs as well-perfectly synced.

Luke silently took off his wristband as well, wailing inside. As his boss said, he was the weakest in the group.

Ashley glanced at Thora and joked with a smile, “Need me to protect you, Thora?”

“Nope,” Thora replied flatly.

Number 79 shot Ashley a glance, his tone icy. “Worry about yourself first.”

Right after he spoke, Ashley ran straight into a heavy burst of fire. Luckily, she dodged in time, or she’d have been riddled with holes.

If she hadn’t noticed that Number 79 hadn’t moved, she might’ve suspected he did it on purpose.

Ashley snorted and focused on evading the attacks behind her.

Number 79 smiled slightly, amusement flickering in his eyes, like he enjoyed the chaos.

“Ashley, I think I need your protection,” Luke suddenly said.

Thora quietly admired that the others still had breath to argue while running for their lives.

Even without the wristbands, the bombers chased relentlessly, firing nonstop.

Missed shots hit the ground, sparking wildly.

The four weaved and dodged so fast the bombers couldn’t lock on, so they just fired blindly.

Ironically, the erratic shooting made it easier to dodge.

Thora frowned.

They couldn’t keep that up forever-stamina would run out.

Ashley pulled her gun and fired, but the bombers were made of a special material Regular bullets couldn’t penetrate them at all.
