Darius's thick eyebrows twitched.
Dad wanted me to kill Draven.
Kill my own brother.
Preston looked at Darius's reaction and knew right away that this time, the guy would refuse the idea, too.
Even though they were father and son, they were completely different kinds of people.
Preston was ruthless and decisive. He wouldn't care about the cost if it helped him reach his goal.
Darius was different. Even if he didn't stick strictly to rules, everything he did followed his own principles, with a kindness inherited from his mother hidden deep inside.
He lowered his gaze and said calmly, "Don't worry, Dad. I'll handle this myself."
If he had known from the start that another person was living inside him, maybe he would have listened to Preston and destroyed Draven.
But things were different now. Draven had his own name, his own thoughts—he was a complete, independent personality, living inside him as his younger brother.
Destroy him...?
At least for now, he hesitated.
Darius added, "And all that power is completely under his control. If he's gone, I don't know if I could control it myself."
Preston didn't press the issue any further. He spoke in a deep voice, warning, "Just think it through. And don't make your mom sad."
Darius nodded. "I know."
"By the way, how's your mate doing?" Preston suddenly remembered and asked casually.
Darius's tone was calm, but he couldn't hide a hint of pride. "Pretty well. Already got into Blue Star Military Academy. In a couple of years, she'll graduate and get promoted. In less than five, she might be a grand marshal."
Is getting into Blue Star Military Academy easy?
Is becoming a grand marshal easy?
Which any of these things is easy for a normal person?
But coming from Darius's mouth, it sounded as simple as eating or drinking.
If this isn't showing off his mate, what is?
Preston's handsome face darkened. "Is your mate blind?"
Darius blinked. "Huh?"
Samuel Blake?
Darius recalled for a moment, then nodded. "I've heard of him. He was a genius admired across Chaules and Blue Star. Every research project and discovery he made could advance science by decades, even centuries. His theories and findings were used in major research institutes and even became the standard in many institutions.
"Almost the entire scientific community on Blue Star, even some special research organizations, treat him like a legend, studying all his discoveries and theories. But if I remember correctly, he disappeared eighteen years ago."
Darius had only paid attention to his research achievements. After all, Skybound Group mainly worked in advanced technology.
Preston nodded. "Anyone who follows science knows about him. But in reality, his genius wasn't only in science."
His voice grew heavier, more serious. "His genes were like a perfectly programmed design. Every skill—sports, combat, learning, or even controlling werewolf bloodline and the speed of wolf spirit awakening—far surpassed ordinary people. He was called the 'perfect one.'
"Some scientists once said he was a being the Blue Star had never seen before—someone who could shape the Blue Star future, but also had the power to destroy it."
Preston's voice grew quieter. "But there's no denying it. Because of him, Blue Star's science leapt ahead into a new era. Even the substance that can change genes and create ability users was his discovery."
Darius frowned in confusion. "Does this person have anything to do with the Greens?"
He knew Preston wouldn't bring up someone irrelevant out of nowhere.
Preston smiled faintly and asked in return, "Do you know who's targeting the Greens?"
