**Shadows Hearts by Joseph King**
**Chapter 72: Orders**
In the dimly lit room, Thora lowered her voice, a sly smirk playing at the corners of her lips. “Because I ruined their plan,” she said, her tone dripping with a mixture of satisfaction and resolve.
“If I’m correct,” she continued, her gaze piercing through the tension that filled the air, “the Greywolf mercenaries are currently trapped inside Astralis College. They’re holding the students hostage, using them as pawns to buy themselves precious time for an escape. Once they think the moment is right, they’ll eliminate everyone on campus and vanish without a trace.”
For these mercenaries, a job was merely a contract, a transaction where their own interests always took precedence. They were ruthless, and their commitment to the mission was unwavering.
This reality weighed heavily on Thora’s mind; she had to act swiftly, before they could execute their deadly plan, if she wanted Felix to emerge from this chaos alive. As for the others, their fates were not her concern.
The silence in the room was palpable until Harvey Vasil broke it, his voice barely above a whisper. “So what do we do now?”
Thora stood tall, her posture radiating authority as she turned to face Luke, who was leaning against a wall, arms crossed and brow furrowed in thought.
With a heavy sigh, Luke asked, “What’s the order, Ms. Green?”
A slight curve of Thora’s lips hinted at her confidence. “First, we need to disable the academy’s defense system. Second, we take control of the surveillance network. The power’s already been restored, so that should be a piece of cake for you.”
Disabling the defense system would pave the way for military infiltration, and commandeering the surveillance would provide her with the necessary insight to orchestrate the rescue.
The group exchanged apprehensive glances, their eyes eventually settling on Malcolm, the principal.
Was it truly wise to discuss such sensitive operations right in front of him? The unease was palpable, even among a few teachers who stood nearby, their expressions betraying their discomfort.
Luke merely raised an eyebrow, unfazed. “It’s doable, but there’s a hitch. The campus signal is still jammed. Without specialized tools, I can’t access external systems. I can tap into the local surveillance, but breaking through the defense grid will require more effort.”
Thora and Luke then turned their attention to Malcolm, who sat rigidly, his expression a mask of stoicism.
“Mr. Grant,” Thora inquired calmly, “what’s your take on this?”
Malcolm met her gaze, the silence stretching between them for several heartbeats before he replied, “Astralis College’s security system has a hidden access port—but you’ll need to break an encryption key first.”
The teachers exchanged startled glances, realizing that the principal had just divulged a well-guarded secret. Even the Empire’s elite hackers would find the academy’s firewall a formidable challenge. And now, a student was about to take on that daunting task?
The moment the words left Malcolm’s lips, Luke’s fingers danced over the keyboard, typing with a speed that seemed almost supernatural.
Thora rolled her neck, relishing the satisfying crack, and then bent down to unfasten the weighted sandbags that had been strapped around her legs. With a swift motion, she tossed them aside.
The heavy thud echoed through the room, drawing the attention of every student present. In their eyes, beyond the initial shock, there was a flicker of admiration—genuine respect for what she had just accomplished.
