Baron’s POV

I looked down at Natalie’s hand, our fingers still tightly laced together in the dark space between our seats,

Her sweet scent of winter jasmine and frost swirled through the closed vents, but it was the proud frequency of her aura that held my wolf completely captive.

She had just laid out my territory tokens right in front of her own family’s vanguard, flatly declaring that my power stood shoulder to shoulder with a centuries-old lineage like the Stones.

Raze rumbled low in my chest, a satisfied vibration that had everything to do with how fiercely my fated mate guarded my name.

I cleared my throat, shifting my massive shoulders back against the leather cushions as I relaxed my posture.

I shot Jayden a casual, dry glance.

“I just threw some pack tokens and resource lines into the initial infrastructure, kid,” I said.

“Revolver is the one who is actually managing the daily administrative logistics across the northern territory routes. Personally, I’m pretty lazy when it comes to ledger columns, and with these bad teeth of mine, I’m much better suited to sitting back in a warm den and living off someone else’s hard work.” Then, ignoring Jayden’s choked gasp of disbelief, I leaned my massive shoulder entirely against Natalie’s, my head dipping until my jaw brushed the soft wool of her blazer with a cheekier, arrogant grin.

“Besides,” I rumbled, my voice a low purr meant only to clear the remaining ice from her eyes, “my wife’s upcoming high-society transcription line is going to bring in enough wealth to purchase three secondary territories by the next winter solstice. The mere thought of her design success is going to make my dinner taste even better for me tonight. Isn’t that right, sweetheart?”

Natalie’s lips curved faintly as a beautiful, radiant warmth bloomed across her features.

I watched her face closely, my wolf purring in absolute triumph. I knew exactly how her mind worked; she was a brilliant, analytical Scribe who had spent eighteen winters being treated like an invisible asset by the Summers Pack.

Not only did I openly praise her unique artistic talent in front of the vanguard, but I even went so far as to put myself down, mimicking the role of a lazy mate just to lift her up and give her the absolute sovereignty she deserved.

She knew I was being incredibly slick with my tongue, she knew it was a calculated display of pure indulgence, but the sheer security of it still felt remarkably good to her spirit.

Up at the wheel, Jayden laughed loud enough to break the tension in the car.

Exactly, Alpha!” Jayden shouted happily, his voice bouncing off the glass windows.

“The Stone family has been filthy rich for generations, ruling the high-altitude sanctuaries with endless transcriptions, and our young lady just happens to possess the finest genetic gift for the Scribe we’ve seen in three eras! Baron, you just keep lying back on the fur mats and living the easy life of a prince. Don’t worry about a single thing while you’re inside our border lines… I’ll personally command the hunting squads to make sure your daily meals are always delicious and fat!”

I couldn’t hold back my own laughter, a deep sound booming through my chest that made the leather seats vibrate.

“Jayden, you’re a remarkably sharp one,” I said, my golden irises flaring with amusement as I lifted my head from Natalie’s shoulder.

“One of these days, when we return to the main camp and the lines are stable, I’ll take you down to the training pits and spar with you properly.”

“That’d be great!” Jayden shouted, his whole frame practically turning giddy with excitement as he nearly took a sharp turn through the dirt trail too fast.

“I’ve heard from the border scouts that your kinetic skills are absolutely impressive… I’ve been wanting to learn how the Blackridge warriors handle the short-blade forms for seasons!”.

Getting trained by the legendary King of the North himself was an honor that a mid-tier guard like him could never have dreamed of earning.

He knew, with absolute clarity, that he really owed it all to my mate sitting beside me.

She was his lucky star; in fact, as the ancestral records were beginning to prove, she was the entire, broken Stone family’s lucky star.

“Luna,” Jayden called out as he adjusted the mirror to look at Natalie.

“Even though this neutral countryside axis is rough and isolated, if you ever need a single thing for your studio or your comfort, you just say the word to my unit. I’ll make it happen by the next sunrise, even if I have to raid the Southern markets myself!”

Seeing how quick-witted and fiercely protective the boy was turning out to be under her influence, I looked very satisfied.

I leaned back against the headrest, my hand shifting to slide my thumb over the soft skin of her inner wrist, tracking the steady, calm rhythm of her pulse.

She turned her head, giving me a beautifully playful glare from beneath her long lashes, her fingers tightening around mine as she leaned in close to my ear.
