This was the third team Joanna had joined. Her previous team, Shattered Dawn, was officially put on hold when she joined this new squad. Since Joanna was the team leader, she could reopen Shattered Dawn later to keep battle records if the top student team ever disbanded.
To Joanna, this felt like a real step forward.
More than six months had passed. She no longer resisted joining new teams. She had teammates again.
Bruce had been right. Once Joanna entered the academy, strong teammates would naturally appear.
She just hadn’t expected them to be this strong.
This team was, without question, a top student team.
The kind that only showed up once in ten years.
After the team was finalized, they left Saul’s office. Saul handed them a training room teleport scroll, and they activated it..
The space they entered was massive. It was a completely independent plane, built only for training.
There was a huge, all–purpose training hall, plus seven villas where they could live. The ambient plane energy here was even richer than in their usual housing.
There was also a Plane Energy Pool.
The pool was filled with liquid plane energy.
Soaking in it could greatly boost one’s attributes.
Samantha pulled out her notebook and began writing fast.
“Everyone,” she said, calm but firm. “This tournament is not a game. Since you’ve joined this team, you will experience pure hell during the next three months of training.
“The Legendary–tier or even Mythic–tier gear Mr. Reid mentioned will be easy to earn.
“This tournament isn’t widely advertised in the Space Alliance. Only Epic tier academies and above even get a slot. And most of them only get one. Some schools don’t go at all. If they do, they just become cannon fodder.

Humans have only been part of the tournament for 530 years. We’ve competed in 53 tournaments so far. Each one gets harder. That’s because human beings keep growing stronger.
“But even so, just ten years ago, our ranking was still 15,238th.
“This tournament isn’t limited to 10,000 competitors. It’s millions, even tens of millions, from countless races Everyone wants their name carved into the Decennial Monument.
“Just getting there is dangerous.
“So take this seriously. Now, report your attributes. I’ll design the most efficient training plan for each of you.”
As soon as Samantha finished, Sophie frowned.
“Why didn’t Mr. Reid say any of this himself?” she snapped. “Telling us now just means we’re already trapped, doesn’t it?”
Sophie hadn’t even gone to the Divine Battlefield last semester. There was no way she wanted to take part in this insane tournament.
She hadn’t spoken up earlier only because she still felt uneasy around Saul.
But Sophie knew Saul spent most of his time guarding the Divine Battlefield.
Once he left, she didn’t feel like pretending anymore.
She had no intention of following Samantha’s training plan.
Samantha and Marlon were both from the same freshman class as her. Sophie knew exactly how brutal their training was.
She had just signed with Titan Group. She still had to shoot ads and do live product promotions. She didn’t have time to train. If she lost her earn–out contract, who would take responsibility?
Her plan was simple. Go through the motions. Once Saul left for the Divine Battlefield, she’d quit the team.
So, she chose to strike first.
She was laying the groundwork for leaving.
Marlon frowned and said sharply, “Sophie, we’re a team now. We’re fighting for the human race. Quitting starts? Where’s your determination to grow stronger?”
Before the fight even
Sophie laughed loudly. “Grow stronger? Have you lost your mind from grinding monsters? I’m a support. I have strategic skills and talents.
“Even if you can’t place high in the tournament, losing me would be a huge loss to the Space Alliance. With me around, more key figures can be revived.”
