The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 21

Belinda had never once spoken out against Ableson, whether he was right or wrong. That was just how things were. But watching Adelina get treated unfairly, she couldn’t keep quiet. And there was no way she was going to let Catherine mess up what Adelina had with Lance.

“Adelina, come with me.”

Belinda reached for Adelina’s hand and led her upstairs.

Fiona watched them go, letting out a deep sigh. “This whole mess with the Green family just keeps getting worse.”

“Don’t take it to heart,” Ableson tried to reassure her. “Whatever happens, it’s your grandson’s decision. There’s no need to worry too much about him.”

“I’m not worried about him,” Fiona said with another sigh. “It’s Catherine I worry about. Now that she and Lance are divorced, is she going to spend the New Year alone again…”

In their eyes, Catherine was someone to feel sorry for.

For Adelina and Belinda, though, she was someone they just couldn’t forgive.

“Belinda, I’m sorry. Did I make things difficult for you?” After getting a few words from Ableson, Adelina actually turned around and tried to comfort Belinda.

Belinda only felt more protective. “Don’t worry. When it comes to you and Lance, I’m still the one in charge.”

Adelina bit her lip and nodded. “It was my fault from the start. I picked a fight with Lance and ran off overseas. If I hadn’t, he never would’ve married someone else, and things wouldn’t be so complicated now.”

“I think we should just move the engagement up, get you two married sooner, and put an end to all this drama,” Belinda said, wanting to cut through the mess.

“I… I’ll do whatever you think is best,” Adelina replied, blushing shyly. But then she frowned. “It’s just Catherine. I really don’t know what she’s planning.”

“Leave Catherine to me.”

Belinda’s voice dropped, suddenly much more serious.

. . .

“Mrs. James, Lance and I are already divorced. I’m just his secretary now. There’s nothing left for me to leave.”

Catherine’s voice was calm, completely unmoved by the offer.

Belinda let out a cold laugh. “Then why did you ask to transfer back here? Don’t tell me you didn’t know about their engagement. You regret the divorce, right? You want to get close to him again.”

Catherine shook her head. “No, that’s not it.”

No matter how firm she was, Belinda wasn’t buying it.

“Then what are you staying for? Anyone else would’ve taken the money and left by now.”

Catherine knew that if she named a price, three million, five million, Belinda would write the check on the spot. It would be more than enough for her and her child to live comfortably. But if she just disappeared, without officially quitting, she’d end up blacklisted in the industry.
