The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 610

"I'm not asking for much. I just need you to help me secure a job. SilverLeaf Industries, Golden Horizon Enterprises—anywhere! As long as it's somewhere Geoffrey's reach can't extend, I'll take it!"

Lemuel had secretly tried looking for a job once, and when Geoffrey found out, he nearly broke Lemuel's legs.

Geoffrey had then said something to the business elites in Eldervale, ensuring that not a single corporate entity dared to touch Lemuel, treating him like a ticking time bomb.

Catherine had ties to SilverLeaf Industries and currently worked for Golden Horizon Enterprises. With her influence, she could easily slide someone in.

"I don't control Golden Horizon Enterprises or SilverLeaf Industries. The Lee family is like a pack of rabid dogs, biting whoever crosses them. Who is going to bear the financial losses they would inflict on the company?"

As soon as she finished speaking, all the strength left Lemuel's hands.

"If I had the choice, I truly wish I was the one they abandoned, not you."

Lemuel stood up, his tall frame stumbling slightly. He offered a self-deprecating laugh and walked out of the room.

Catherine remained crouching on the floor, an oppressive heaviness suffocating her.

She finally stood up, staring at the spot where Lemuel had just been, taking a long moment before finally leaving.

Back at the car, Lanny was awake, resting peacefully in Lance's arms without making a fuss.

Catherine opened the door, got in, and started the engine.

She was unnervingly silent. She didn't speak a word to Lance and didn't even glance at Lanny.

Lance's intense gaze locked onto her profile.

"What did Lemuel say to you?"

Catherine replied softly, "He said the Lee family's public claim about having three children is just a ploy. They're still targeting Lanny. They'll do whatever it takes to drag me back. Lemuel just wanted to warn me to be careful."

"What else?"

She shook her head. "That's it."

Lance's eyes darkened.

They had already guessed ninety percent of that without Lemuel needing to say a word. Catherine wouldn't be this emotionally wrecked over something they already knew.

At the villa, Catherine parked the car and carried Lanny inside.

Lance took his phone and walked into the yard, his deep gaze following her until she disappeared inside.

However, her appetite was easily dictated by her emotions.

So, even when Susan and Alexa pulled out all the stops for lunch, Catherine barely took two bites before taking Lanny back upstairs for a nap.

She stayed in her room with the baby the entire afternoon.

She came down for dinner, took another single bite, and retreated to her room again.

"What in the world is wrong with Catherine?" Susan worried.

"It's fine." Lance put down his silverware and got up to head upstairs.

"Do you think they had a fight? They barely touched their food!"

Alexa pointed out, staring at the full plates on the table. "It was the exact same thing at lunch!"

Susan signaled for her to clear the table and drop the subject.

Upstairs, Catherine coaxed Lanny to sleep before finally taking a shower. When she stepped out and picked up her phone, she saw a text Lemuel had sent ten minutes ago.

[Catherine, thank you! I knew you wouldn't turn your back on me!]
