Chapter 117
Before leaving, Ruby wasn’t happy that she still hadn’t met Jeremiah.
The next morning, at the breakfast table after she got up, Melanie asked Jessica again. “When are we going to have a meal so I can finally meet Jeremiah?”
Tll give him a call,” Jessica said.
Jeremiah didn’t pick up, but Jessica didn’t seem bothered when she came back. “He’s probably in a meeting right now.”
Ruby, always open–minded, said. “It’s good for a man to be busy. He should put his career first. Someone like Jeremiah, who’s already running such a massive company at his age.
“He’s calm, reliable, sharp–minded, and quick to act. Honestly, in our whole social circle, you’d be hard- pressed to find anyone who comes close.”
The rest of the Kingsley family chuckled at that.
Ruby sighed, “Too bad he didn’t get to see you at your best. He was too busy to come watch you race
“No big deal. Elaine recorded a video for me, I sent it to him, and Jeremiah already congratulated me.” Jessica replied.
“Glad to hear it,” Ruby nodded, looking pleased.
The next day, Ruby was really leaving. She still hadn’t met Jeremiah, and the whole family reluctantly saw her off at the airport, feeling a bit disappointed.
Before boarding, Ruby took Jessica’s hand and said, “My vacation’s almost over, and I probably won’t be able to be there for your engagement. So let me wish you a happy engagement ahead of time.”
“Thank you, Grandma,” Jessica replied.
Jessica gently hugged Ruby, feeling a bittersweet regret in her heart. She still couldn’t make it happen for Melanie to meet Jeremiah.
Ruby had spent her whole life devoted to her studies and was respected by everyone. If she and Jeremiah ever got to sit down together, with their insight and temperament, they’d have so much to talk about.
It was too bad they missed out on that.
Jeremiah was always swamped.
“Sorry, Grandma Jeremiah’s swamped. Next time you visit, I’ll make mure you two finally meet,” Jessica sant
“I’s fine, I know he’s a busy mum Ruby sail with a gentle smile

Even though she felt a bit disappointed, she genuinely believed Jeremiah couldn’t make it this time, not that he was avoiding her. So she didn’t feel upset about it.
“Next time I come, I hope it’s for your wedding,” Ruby said.
Ruby had high hopes for Jessica. Before leaving, she patted Jessica’s shoulder and said. “That Hathaway got lucky. Don’t worry about her. She’s not going to make any real waves. Stay confident. Someone like her will never be a match for you.”
Jessica nodded.
Ruby then said a few words to Melanie, Spencer, and the others, telling them, “Alright, you all head back now
At the boarding gate, people were coming and going. As Ruby was about to turn away, her eyes swept over the crowd, and suddenly, she froze.
She thought she saw Hathaway.
The last time they met, Hathaway was still buddy–buddy with Jessica. She’d talked with Ruby in that same sweet tone, her almond eyes shining bright, like she had two little suns in them.
Back then, Ruby had thought to herself, ‘How did someone like her have the nerve to try and get close to the Blackwood family?”
Hathaway was always decked out in designer labels, blowing through her parents‘ money, and never took her studies seriously.
Ruby always thought Jeremiah would never be interested in someone so superficial.
It turned out that she was right.
Well, at least my granddaughter’s got what it takes, Ruby thought.
A smile crept back onto Ruby’s face. By the time she looked again, Hathaway had vanished. She didn’t give is another thought and headed for her flight.
On her way back from the airport, Jessica ran into a group of Scarlett’s fans who’d come to pick her lips,
They were all wearing headbands with Scarlett’s name and her signature colors, waving glow sticks and banners, gathered in small groups, gossiping excitedly. Jeremiah’s name kept coming up in their excited
chatter.
Jessica paused for a moment and couldn’t help but chuckle wryly in herself
Right now, the fans shipping Scarlett and jeremital were way louder and more entusiastic thom her own supporters, even though she was the real girlfriend here.

Elaine looked at the scene and couldn’t help but curl her lip in disgust. “These fans are seriously gross They’re always shipping their idol with Jeremiah like it’s their full–time job.”
“Once Jessica and Jeremiah get engaged, they’ll vanish for good,” Melanie said with a dismissive smile. “It’s only a bunch of random rabble anyway.”
“Yeah, the engagement’s days away. Elaine said, grinning. “There’ll be news everywhere about Jessica and Jeremiah, I can’t wait to see Scarlett’s fans get totally owned.”
Jessica smiled. With the engagement coming up, she wasn’t bothered by Scarlett at all.
But once she and Jeremiah were officially engaged, she’d take care of it then. Honestly, Scarlett’s fans won’t be making a fuss for much longer.
Jessica couldn’t wait for that day to come.
Once she got home, Jessica called Mia to catch up. “Hey, Mia, how’ve you been lately?”
“Hey, Jessica, Mia replied, sounding genuinely happy to hear from her. She’d been bored out of her mind.
