Chapter 119
Jessica stepped forward and affectionately linked arms with Jeremiah. “Everyone’s been praising you for being so punctual today.”
She cast a teasing glance at Hathaway.
Hathaway’s eyes followed the delivery guy sprinting past in a helmet with fluffy fox ears, completely ignoring Jessica and Jeremiah.
Eleanor said, “Jeremiah, could you give Hathaway a ride? I have a party to attend tonight, so I need to head back with the driver to get ready
“Sure, Jeremiah replied.
Eleanor left in the driver’s car.
Hathaway followed behind Jeremiah and Jessica.
Watching their backs, she suddenly remembered that before the yacht incident, when Jeremiah had gone overseas to take over the Blackwood family’s international business, Jessica had also been in Monarcia
Did they ever get in touch back then?‘ she wondered.
The thought popped into her head. If this had happened before, it would’ve felt like a bucket of ice water had been dumped over her.
But now, it drifted through her mind, leaving no ripples behind.
Still, there was a new layer of disgust in her eyes.
Jeremiah suddenly turned and glanced at Hathaway behind him.
As their eyes met, Hathaway was caught off guard for a moment; she hadn’t expected Jeremiah to turn around then. She quickly masked the flicker of resentment in her gaze.
“What’s wrong, Jeremiah?” Jessica asked, glancing back at Hathaway.
Jeremiah looked away.
He opened the passenger door, and Jessica slid in first.
Instead of getting in the back seat. Hathaway pulled out her phone. Tll call a cab. No need to bother you?
Jeremiah stood quietly by the car, obviously waiting for her to get in. The north gate road was so sighs that only one car could squeeze through, and the cars behind were already laying on their horns
Hathaway frowneri, but finally gave in and got in.
She made up her mind.

Chapter 119
To make sure Eleanor never tried to act all sweet and peaceful with her again. Hathaway decided dot net time, she’d drive Eleanor so mad that she’d never dare mess with her anymore.
They hadn’t driven far when Avery called
Seriously, did that idiot think I meant fifteen minutes? Hathaway thought.
She picked up the phone. Avery told her to come to the office. She replied, ‘Okay, I’ll be right there”
Avery’s voice was loud enough for Jeremiah to hear. He glanced out at the fading light, then caught her reflection in the rearview mirror. “You’re heading to the office this late?”
Hathaway kept her eyes on her phone. “Yeah, got to work overtime.”
“How about we grab some dinner? If you’re heading to the office now, the cafeteria’s probably closed anyway Jeremiah said.
The car went dead silent for a few seconds.
Both Jessica and Hathaway froze.
Hathaway thought, ‘If I have to eat with these two, my stomach would be in knots.
She said. I’m not working overtime anymore. drop me off at the next intersection.
Jeremiah kept driving, heading toward the Whitmore residence.
Jessica was still reeling from Jeremiah’s sudden invitation to Hathaway.
Her heart tightened, and before she could stop herself, she blurted out, “Hathaway, Jeremiah and I are getting engaged this Sunday. Why don’t you come with Lorenzo?”
Hathaway said, “No need. I’ve already got something going on that day.
But she was planning to give them a gift they’d remember for the rest of their lives.
Thinking about it made Hathaway grin. She glanced at Jeremial’s strong, straight shoulders from the back
seat.
Heh, Jeremiah, let’s see how you like it for once, Hathaway thought.
Even though it was in her head, Jeremiah seemed to pick up on it. He suddenly looked in the rearview mirror, making Hathaway instantly straighten up, all tense.
When Hathaway got back to the Whitmore residence, Avery was leaning in close to Celeste’s belly, talking the baby inside.
Seeing Hathaway come in with a cold look on her face, he looked up and asked, “What’s wrong? Did someone piss you off?”

Hathaway rolled her eyes at him, then turned to Mary, who was coming out of the kitchen Mary, civaldy bring dinner up to my room later? I want to eat there. Oh, and here, this searf is for you
Then she headed upstairs by herself
“Hathaway looks pissed, Celeste said, nudging Avery’s shoulder. “What did you do?”
It wasn’t me. Maybe her blind date didn’t go well,” Avery replied.
He leaned in again, talking to the baby, “Hey, you two, dinner’s almost ready. Make sure you eat up tonigh
Avery got up to call Sylvia for dinner, but she was having veggies tonight and told them to go ahead without her.
So it was Celeste and Avery at the table.
Celeste thought it was way too quiet. “Is Joe around? Why don’t Joe and Mary join us for dinner?”
Avery, being the obedient husband, went to call Joe as Celeste asked.
Meanwhile, after dinner with Jeremiah, Jessica went home. Elizabeth and Melanie asked all about her dunner with Eleanor.
When they heard Hathaway had tagged along, Melanie froze for a second, and everyone else went silent.
Eleanor really seemed determined to hook Hathaway up with her younger son.
If Jessica and Hathaway actually ended up as sisters–in–law, that would be bad news for Jessica.
Melanie said. “And Avery lets his sister do whatever she wants. What’s more annoying is that Whitmore Group’s products have been selling like crazy lately.”
Elizabeth paused for a moment before saying. “It’s fine. As long as Jessica marries Jeremiah, we’ll have Mr Blackwood backing us up. Hathaway’s only got Avery, an adopted son, as her support.
“Once you two have kids, and Eleanor sees her own grandson, cute as a button, perfect in every way, compared to the one who isn’t her real grandchild, the difference in how she treats them will be obvious
“No one’s perfect. Eleanor’s putting on a show. All that kindness she’s showing Hathaway now is temporary politeness. It doesn’t mean a thing. Once her real grandson is born, it’ll be obvious who she truly favors.
Jessica thought Elizabeth had a point. But thinking about Jeremiah actually inviting Hathaway to dinner de her feel uneasy all over.
Melanie said, “You’re about to get engaged. Stop stressing over this stuff. What matters now is getting some sleep, slapping on a face mask, and making sure you look absolutely stunning on you big day”
Elaine chirned in, Jessica, you’re gorgeous no matter what.”
